I sold my Class III gun last year and am sitting on about 24,000 rounds of 9mm and probably 9,000 of 5.56. I think I averaged $125/1000 on the 9mm and $250/1000 on the 5.56. I don't see myself needing all of it. What would be a fair price in this day and age ? It's almost all Federal XM193 and Fed American Eagle 115 and 124 grain

9mm is going for .60 to .70 per round and XM193 is going for .80 to $1.00 per round. You could turn quite a nice profit, but the way things are going in this country, a lot of people think that sitting a sizable stash of ammo is a smart move.

I guess the real questions I would have for you are do you need the money? Do you shoot a lot? Are you planning on continuing to shoot a lot? Are you debt free? Is your kids college at least partially paid for? Your retirement?

I don't have nearly as much but I am sitting on my stash. But then again, I live in California, enough said?

It depends. If you try to sell it locally, I'd try to price it in accord with what other local stores are charging, perhaps a little bit more or a little bit less, depending upon how fast you want to sell it.

If you sell online, you could probably get more for it, but you'll have to deal with more laws and regulations over the sale of internet ammo.

I'm debt free (except for mortgage) I don't see myself needing all of it. I think I might keep 5-6k of both. I might by my wife something nice for putting up with me and my toys (class 3 gun, motorcycles, etc) also if the market recovers I can always buy more.

I go shooting somewhat regularly, to be honest I was buying a lot when it was cheaper and ended up becoming a hoarder. I used to have over 30,000 9mm

I would sell half of it and make a good profit, wait till the market recovers in a year, and then go buy when it comes on sale.

I would sit on it if I were you. Maybe sell/give some away to some friends or new shooters who need a bit of ammo. If things continue to go the way they are you may have a better investment than you know.

5.56 is about $.50 or so, depending on where you buy. I would be interested in buying a few hundred from you depending on the price.

I would say sell some of your ammo and keep a good amount. Its a win-win situation for you and the buyers. You have quite a good amount of ammo that is in very high demand right now. DO NOT wait til it becomes readily available again IMHO.

I'm with MarshallDodge; keep half of both calibers and sell the other half. Replenish when prices and quantities get back to normal or as your needs arise.

Unless you are hurting for the money I'd sit on it. It is not going to go bad if stored in a dry place. You'll never have to part with your money if you need it.

Further, if some SHTF event goes down those two calibers will be awesome for barter.

A - you say you have excess

B - the market price is very favorable

C - buy low, sell high

I would sell the excess into the market and put my money to work somewhere else.

Or another way to put it, if you had the cash in your pocket would you go out and spend it on ammo of that caliber?
