Should I sell my Bulgarian Makarov 9X18?

Thats the problem, 9mm para is readily available at the local grocery store, 9mm Mak is hard to find... special order only, and to compound things, there are a huge number of manufacturers making 9mm para pistols.

It's only as hard to find as ordering a book from Amazon. Cheap 9x18 ammo is readily available online. And I'm not sure what the wide array of 9x19 pistols available has to do with anything here -- he already has the pistol. This is an ammo problem only, and it's not even a problem.

Actually the price is about the same as 9mm para.

Am going out to get to get coffee, pie, steak, milk, etc... and in the same store I can pick up 9mm for my Hi-Power, 40 S&W for my Sig, 38 Spl for my J-frame, .357 for my M13, ....and 44Mag, not to mention 45ACP.

And if I want to reload 9mm Mak, I need Boxer brass because the Mak ammo I have all has Berdan metal cases which can't be re-loaded, then I need .365 bullets, and small primers... which may (or may not) be currently available. And if I order ammo on-line I have to pay extra for shipping, and then wait for 3-4 days for supplies and/or ammo to arrive... whereas its a lot easier to simply pick up the ammo I need while buying bread and milk.

As much as I like the 9x18 handguns (I have 15) they simply are not to everyone's taste. My first exposure to them was less than thrilling. My fondness for them was an evolution process from mild interest to dedicated disciple. BUT, they are not for everyone.

I like 25 and 32 auto's too. I can take the taunts and I am not alone.

Exactly. It's cheap.

That's nifty, but it's beside the point -- your shopping arrangement doesn't make online ordering difficult. You said 9x18 is "hard to find." That's simply not the case.

No one was talking about reloading. OP specifically said he does not want to reload. You're coming up with reasons why 9x18 is not ideal for you, and that's fine, but they're not relevant to the OP's issue.

If advance planning is an issue for you, then, yes, online ordering presents an inconvenience of sorts. Some of us buy ammo more than a few hours prior to needing to shoot it. Even if that's not your habit, it's not a difficult one to acquire. There's also not a whole lot that's easier than spending two minutes on a website and then letting someone bring something to your front door. And the shipping cost is a non-issue if you buy a decent quantity. The per-unit cost is already cheaper than store-bought ammo, there's no sales tax, and the shipping cost on a decent quantity averages out to be less than the sales tax you'd have to pay at a brick-and-mortar store.

Anyway, these are all irrelevant side issues. The pertinent point for the OP's purposes is that the ammo is both easy to find and inexpensive.

Hey Austin,

Thank you for your comments. Have probably done more testing of the Makarov PM cartridge than most. And consider it a top 5 (steel gun) CCW, which I have carried for many years, but I don't have as many as lincen.

Just checked, and my on-line supplier is sold out of (Brown Bear, CCI Blazer, Glaser, S&B, Hornady, Fiocchi, Silver Bear, Wolf, GECO, PPU), which was never the case 5+ years ago. They do have Winchester in stock at $25 a box plus shipping.

Which means I am forced to handload, sorry 'reloading' is a dirty word to you, but it sure is a boon to me.

Best to you.

Combat Engineer,

I don't know why you're calling Austin excited; he answered in a pretty level headed manner. But based on your reply you know of only one on-line ammo vendor. There are actually more than one.

Well if you decide to sell it please let me know, I have been mulling that over for a while, depending on condition, and price I may be interested.
