Should I sell my P-11 or....

I'm in a dilemma.

I have a guy wanting to buy this gun for a little more than I bought it for, and kind of thinking of selling it.


Keltec P-11
Pros:
thin light-weight
I shoot semi-autos a little better
holds 10 (or 12) rounds
easy to reload
the pinky extension provides a full grip
don't have a holster for it
good car gun

Cons:
I don't really shoot THIS semi-auto well (but could with practice)
has a clip so could carry it, easily
does not fit in my pockets...any of them



I have a mdl 36 .38 spl, but if I do sell the kel-tec, I'm thinking about getting a taurus ultralite or s&w lightweight .38 that I could fit in my pocket. it would be lighter than my steel mdl 36. that would be nice for summer carry.

OR I could put the money towards a Hi Power or 1911, of which I don't have any, but probably wouldn't carry. Or maybe a glock or xd .45 also. Or Glock 17 or XD 9mm, to go with my 26 (and my wife's XD9sc she's getting)

I'm just kind of torn as to what I want to do. There are way too many options

Right now my CC setup is either:
the mdl 36 in mika pocket holster
Keltec on clip, no holster (occasionally)
G26 OWB or IWB

so what says you?
(and don't say "keep it and get blah blah", not an option right now).

You should have the gun that you will continue to carry and learn to shoot it. Let me say I can carry any handgun I want that's on the market and the following are what I consider my CCW guns. M&P 357 Sig. FS, M&P 357 Sig. Compact, Kel-Tec P3AT, Kel-Tec PF-9 and Smith 4013. The 4013 is my preferred but I have stopped carrying it due to the fact I can not get a CT laser sight for it my others are so equipped (this is another story). I don't like carrying my 1911 or Hi-Power due to the weight (I'm 6'1" at 250 #). Of my CCW guns I fire each one every month a minimum of 50 rounds (last weekend I put 100 rounds through the M&P FS and 100 through the P3AT and 50 through the 4013). So what gun do I carry the most? The P3AT is great on a hot summer day but almost every time I pick the PF-9 because it's comfortable to carry and the 9 mil is a sufficient round in my opinion. Last weekend I put the M&P Compact in a holster but before I left house I changed to the PF-9. I will carry the others as to the area I may be going but for everyday carry my PF-9 fits the bill. I have a P-11 but the PF-9 is in my opinion a better CCW gun. So my advice is to sell the P-11 and replace it with a PF-9. You need a CCW gun that you will not leave home without it. Remember a 22 LR gun is better on you than a 357 sig. at home. O by the way I think you should at sometime in the future buy a 1911 and Hi-Power they are my all time favorite guns.

True... I had an MP FS 9mm that I sold because I rarely ever carried it, was just too uncomfortable to me, and was a hassle.
Oh, I'm also about your size...although currently more like 260#

Sold that and got the G26, which is very easy to carry concealed. waiting on a holster now, altho i have the Glock OWB holster that I use sometimes with it now.

Most often I like to pocket carry--it's the easiest, most comfortable way to conceal carry, imo.

I would like the P-11 a lot better if I could comfortably fit it in my pocket, but even on my jeans with very large pockets...it fits, but it is almost impossible to draw. Not to mention it's physically almost exactly the same size as my g26.

If the PF9 is sufficiently smaller, I could certainly look into acquiring one of those.

P3at is also tempting.

But the ease of the Model 36 has me leaning towards a smith 642 or the taurus 85 ultralite....

My P11 fits MY pockets better than a 642 Smith that lots of folks pocket carry. Every thought about new pants? I also have a Taurus UL. If you can't pocket a P11, forget about revolvers. The P11 is more compact.

Being a little more serious, .380 doesn't flip my switches, but I do like the idea of a P3AT or an LCP in my collection as an alternative. I have more'n one choice for any day I walk out the door, but 80 percent of the time, unless I'm just in a revolver mood, I stick that P11 in my pocket and live happy.

And for the record, I would definitely buy kel-tec again. Right now either looking at PF9 or a 642/Airweight type snub, if I decide not to keep it.

I have never worn suits, have one I was married in 26 years ago and I wear that to funerals and weddings, though I'm a little fat for it, now. LOL I'm getting older and funerals seem to be more frequent than weddings now days. I wear carpenter's jeans and Wrangler cargos most of the time and the P11 is perfect in the front pocket of either. It draws totally snag free and quite fast from my home made pocket holster. I even fit son-in-laws new Taurus PT145 .45ACP in the front pocket of those carpenter's jeans. However, draw speed would be a little slow with the .45. It's a lot bigger than the P11 which gets lost in that pocket.

I've got just jeans, but they do have large pockets. not carpenter, but loose fit so similar to carpenter's jeans without the hoops and extra pockets. maybe i'm just too fat for the p11

or maybe it's the cut of the pocket at the top, that probably makes a big difference.

but for some reason, the revolvers just feel more natural... I'll have to think about this some more and be really sure.

I don't want to sell it then regret it!

What really appeals to me, other than that the P11 is accurate, powerful, and reliable and fun to shoot is that it's 14 ounces unloaded and it has up to 13 rounds of +P 9x19 firepower in a pocket. That's just hard not to have on me. .380 is puny. I have more confidence in 9x19 than even .38 special as a service round, actually. The gun is hammerless, non-snag.

Go to Walmart and stick our hand into Carpenter's jeans pockets and also a pair of Wrangler cargos. The Wranglers have a little more open pocket design on the front pocket, too. I don't carry in the cargo pocket, but the front strong side. It's not as deep as the carpenter's, but plenty of room for my P11. I wear 36-30, but buy 38-30 for the room when I wanna carry IWB. They have too much butt room, but that's okay, I like loose jeans. LOL

Actually, when I do carry my Taurus 85UL in the Wrangler cargos, the butt of the gun is somewhat visible if you look from behind. That's not the case with the P11 which is smaller, deeper in the pocket. The Carpenter's jeans have such deep, big pockets a revolver disappears in there, too. What you probably like about the revolver is the lack of much in the hammer area where the auto has a hump of metal. It seems more compact, but isn't if you lay the guns side by side. Do that and you'll see the P11 is shorter even than a 642 in OAL. What I also like about the auto is I can carry a spare mag on me one heck of a lot easier than I can carry speed loaders and speed strips are SLOW to use.

Consistency is important

I used to pocket carry a Model 60 but I recently went to a P11. I am a firm believer in consistency. In a high stress situation you need to be able to react without thinking. In the heat of battle you don't want to have to ask yourself a lot of questions:

1. Is the gun in my pocket or on my hip?
2. Is it the SA 1911, the SA/DA revolver, or the DAO auto?
3. Do I have to manipulate the safety, cock the hammer, or just pull the trigger?
4. Do I have 5,8, or 11 rounds available?

I don't want to have a lot of variables in how I carry. For this reason I carry either an HK USPc, or a Kel-Tec P11. Both are DAO, no safety, 10+1, semi autos. Both are carried IWB, in a Comp-Tac Minotaur holster (very comfortable). Both are carried at 3 o'clock. The only variable is whether or not they are under a tucked or untucked shirt.

I think I'm just going to keep it.

I may just have to adjust my dress a little more, and possibly practice drawing out of the pocket. maybe have to do more of an angled type motion to be fast at it.

I think this P-11 serves a nice little niche in my collection that would cost me more to replace than to keep it.

Yeah, short of maybe a Rohrbaugh, I think you're going to have to drop down to a P3AT or LCP size gun to get a lot smaller. The Kahr CW9 (I think) is a tiny bit smaller, but not in the P3AT class and the PF 9 is only a little thinner, not smaller in height or length.

You can never have enough good choices in your collection for carry IMHO. If you have to use it and the cops grab it for a while, you'll have another to back it up. Don't ask how I know this.

Sounds like what you really want is a true pocket gun. If you are selling it to get a true pocket gun I would get an lcp or a j-frame revolver.

Again, my P11 is more compact and easier to pocket carry than any J frame that was ever produced. The alternative is do drop to the lesser caliber, .380 ACP, or pony up for a Rohrbaugh.

Since we were discussing alternatives to a P11 including revolvers, I'm wonderin' why this got moved to Autos. Odd.

Concerning the above quote. My shooting up to getting the P-11 and the P3AT was mostly with 1911 and Hi-Power and double action shooting was with 4013 & 5004 first shot DA and wheel guns in DA. For accuracy single action is the best way to go but for one of my musts for a carry gun it must be DAO. So when I got the P-11 what a surprise such a long heavy trigger pull and with the first mag. out I missed the 6" target and it took me 100 rounds to start hitting where I aimed. The P-11 is not a fun gun to shoot all day but you can learn to shoot it efficiency and it is very comfortable to carry. I love to shoot my Colt 70's series 1911 but I don’t like to carry it.

as an update...

I have been able to fit the P-11 in my pockets that I usually carry my revolver in. It does print "squarer" but still isn't as bad as I initially thought. I do have to draw a little differently due to the shape.

I have a desantis nemesis pocket holster. on it it says it also fits g26...well, I put the g26 in it and in my pocket, and couldnt even draw without the holster coming out. The P-11 did a much better job.

so now...next gun will either be a revolver ultralite...or a PF-9....just to have more options.

Keep it. I have a P-11, its as small of a 9mm as I would personally want, and it IS accurate enough at 15 yards for its designed purpose, small light 11 round 9mm ccw. I have a Houge Handall Jr. grip and the Kel-tec grip extension on the mag, Helps a lot for controlability, and accuracy. If I take my time to aim and squeeze the trigger, I can get about 3" at 15 yards, not bad for a tiny gun.

I wear mine on a www.sideguardholsters.com "the slide" OWB, or a cheap uncle mikes IWB. Ill be saving up more money for another sideguard IWB for summer carry. I like OWB more, but its gonna be tricky to conceal in summer months, where IWB makes the little gun all but disappear. Still a rather loose fitting t-shirt over the owb and the gun isnt visible at all.

Also: buy some A-zoom snap caps and practice trigger control. P-11 has second strike capability, most others DONT. Heck, its a true double action, keep pulling the trigger, it keeps smacking the firing pin.

If you live in an area they still allow "hi-cap" magazines, Kel-tec sells a 12 round magazine that is the same size as the 10 round, shorter follower. Who else makes a 13 round 9mm this small? Id feel safer with the kel-tec than a block. In fact, sell the G26 and get a 1911, I know you want one They are fun!
