Hickok45 posted this announcement and I thought I'd share it. If you go to the bottom of the page, it looks like the ATF is saying that shouldering a one of these guns constitutes a redesign of the intended use of the brace, and thereby designates the gun as SBR requiring a tax stamp.
I wonder how long it will be before this is legally challenged. After all, is it illegal to shoot a bolt action rifle one handed? Does doing so make that rifle a pistol? Of course not. If I drop the mag on an auto loader and walk around with one one bullet in the chamber, have I redesigned it into derringer?
IMO misuse, or alternate use does not mean redesign.
I don't even own an AR pistol any more, but this seems incorrect to me. I'll try to find a link to the official announcement on the ATF's website.
