Here's my Ruger MKII with the SoLow mount and a Tasco PDP2 red dot. Nice little setup I got off one of the gun boards. I have since swapped out the grips and took the front sight off too.

Sheldon-
Does that mounting system come in different heights and do you have to remove your rear sight to use it?
Also, does it come with 30mm rings?
I have a spare 30mm Ultra Dot lying around that I might like to try on this-

-but as you may be able to see by the stainless pin behind the rear sight, it has a Speed Strip conversion installed.
I'm not willing to lose the Speed Strip for optics.
Thanks! :)

B27 ... I have fitted some SoLows to my 22/45 ..... the whole deal is as you see it .. each pair of items is combined mount ring and clamp. Yes, the rear sight comes of totally and a small Aluminum piece is provided which goes in the dovetauil. That then sits between the two screws of the rear pair ... gives something to act as a recoil stop. So yeah ... height is fixed.

They do say to fix the things using an epoxy, both for protection and solid results . I have not done this yet because I don't want it too permanent ... yet! I plan to do some testing and make sure the red dot will dial in OK. Then maybe, I'll refit them with the epoxy bedding.

How many people have or haven't used the epoxy?

B27,

Where did you get the high rise / see thru scope mounts for your trailsides? I have a 6" trailside standard model with a red dot mounted directly to the integrated scope rails. Real PITA when it comes time to clean.

Thanks in advance.

P95-
Thanks! I guess I'll just stick to the iron sights on that Ruger for now.
I don't need to be getting addicted to dot sights anyway.;)

drannor-
Those cantilevered Weaver rail optics mounts for Trailsides are made and sold by www.larrysguns.com
Look under Hammerli Accessories.
Larry is DA MAN when it comes to Trailside stuff and is also a genuine pleasure to do business with. :)
But it's not a see through mount, and you do have to remove it to remove the slide from the gun.
However, removing it requires the loosening of only one screw. You don't touch your optics rings and the mount fits so snug that with just a bit of care you can remount you optics amazingly close to zero.

B27,

Thanks, I've done business with Larry in the past (scope & grips) and should have thought to look there. Great guy.

Indeed he is, drannor:)
At one time the 30mm Ultra Dot on my older T-side was mounted like yours.
Larry's way is much better.

Ruger MkII 5.5" stainless bull barrel, Docter red-dot sight and ambi Hogue grips. Eventually I want to get it integrally suppressed, but that won't be for awhile.

I've had good results with the SoLow mounts and an Ultradot 30mm on my Ruger 22/45. I did use the loctitie that comes with the mounts, and it works well. Haven't removed them, so I don't know how permanent it is, or how it'd affect the finish of the gun. Don't think I'll be taking them off any time soon, though. This gun just makes me smile.

:D

BamBam ..... interesting you should post .... I sneaked off to range this afternoon (second time in one week!) .... and last thing I did before quitting was power up the 22/45 .. with its new SoLow mounts and Simmons ''Shot Dot'' set up .. as per my earlier pic.

Oh My!! A mag ful at 10 yds to pre-dial in . then 25 yds and final sighting .... then . got on with the business of ''pickin off'' count;less peices of broken clay. What a tack driver eh .. and just a handgun. The grin factor is immense!:p

As I mentioned earlier .... I have fitted my mounts without adhesive ... and so far (200 rounds or so) - after a check on positions of both sights and mounts .. no apparent movement whatsoever. I may leave them as they are for now if nothing moves in future.

More and more Neos...I am no longer alone! No red dot on mine, but I might put one on since the rear site doesn't want to stay locked in place. Execpt for that it has been great!

Ok, this should do it... Walther P22... I know, this pic is awful, but the digital camera is so old --- it has vacuum tubes in it...

With the dot sight and the minimal weight of the gun, it's a great training weapon, that dot moves with evey error you make. And it stays in place and groups tightly when you do things right.

P95Carry,

Glad you like yours. Kinda cool how it holds up w/o the loctite/epoxy stuff. Supposedly, the loctite/epoxy stuff actually protects the gun's finish from wear marks from the mounts and can be rubbed off with acetone. According to their website, anyways. Again, I'm not taking mine off, so dunno firsthand.

I think I've helped SoLow sell at least three sets of mounts already....

I have to admit I don't understand the fascination with sighted .22 auto pistols, but to each his own I guess. I like .22 pistols, but the sighted ones don't make sense to me. Why not use a rifle instead?

Why not use a rifle instead?
Up to a point W9 that's true ... but .....

There is something about the handgun aspect .. call it a challenge if you like ... plus the fact that with this set up they are so damn accurate.

Just another version of grin factor .. that's all ... and yeah .... it is like so much ''whatever floats the personal boat''! :)
