I just got a chance to fire my recently acquired Bulgarian Makarov. I must say, for me it's been the most accurate pistol I've owned!! I absolutely love it! Please share any pictures you have of this gem of a pistol. I'm hoping to get my hands on an East German next. :D

I would like to see some of those accepting 12 round magazines. The magazines themselves look like smaller version of the P7M13 mags. One of these days I will own one.

Here's mine, wearing a Marschal stock.

Here's an old picture of my current Maks (I stupidly sold my pristine Chinese Makarov a few years ago). I need to take some updated pictures. I love my Maks!

That's Beautiful SharpDressedMan! How did you get it? I can barley find East Germans. BTW, if anyone knows where to look for EG's let me know, I know they're hard to find.

A few Russian made Makarovs left. Blemishes, some bluing loss, some pits possible. Priced accordingly. These are true Russian guns, but marked as Bulgarian imports. Contact Nick, [email protected]. They came in about 5-6 years ago, IIRC.

Why do some people say they are ugly? They are sexy without a doubt even with the red plastic grips.

SharpsDressedMan, Tow boat er, gbellah, MattTheHat - those are beautiful pieces - appreciate you sharing!

MattTheHat - is the KGB crested stock a custom fit, or are those available?

Tow boat er - I bought one a couple of weeks ago (meaning I did NOT buy that Hi-Point I was considering), and the black grips look a lot like the the one in your picture on the lower left.

I'm curious, I've seen the Makarov.com website and it seems to suggest that a Makarov with a serial number containing an "AY" indicates it was manufactured in E. Germany - is there a better indicator, or is that pretty accurate?

Rubber Duck - your picture shows a tool that I didn't get when I bought mine - what's it for and how do I get one?

usp9 - Wow! That is one pretty Makarov - is this one of those Simson-Suhl models?

I read that the former E German Makarov plant in Thueringen made commercial models after German re-unification - and that they're called Simson Suhl's - that piece looks waaay too pretty to be a military surplus (that...and I don't think the Soviets would have incurred the cost of engraving "Ernst Thaelmann" into standard military issue pistols...)!

Again, very nice - thanks for posting!

BTW can anyone comment on whether the letter designation on my Makarov ("AY") in the serial number indicates the pistols country of origin?
