Question - how many of you prefer to sit when reloading, and how many prefer to stand? With my back problems, sitting is the only way I can do it, so I just assumed everyone does. But it looks like a lot of you are standers.

I stand. Honestly, I can't figure out how some people sit at the press. I've tried and it just seems to make everything harder. More power to you if you can though.

My bench tops are at about 34 inches. I sit on a stool, but it's also no big deal to shove it out of the way and stand if I want.

At 71, I sit, I never enjoyed standing, I used to load for hours on end when I would shoot 500 + rounds per week.

Well, sizing rifle brass I'll usually end up standing. Since I fell like I've been thrust into a wrestling match.



Sitting-I like to situate my chair where I can see just a bit of powder inside the case of a correctly thrown charge.. Helps me be sure that I have a near correct charge weight thrown, if I keep my head and body in the same spot.

I have stuff kind of spread out in my man cave area. I have a reloading bench that is just for that with some storage below it. It is an old set of kitchen cabinets that I put two 3/4" tops on with lots of reinforcement including angle iron. The LNL press is mounted on the open end and I built a metal bracket to ensure it doesn't flex. Lots of storage underneath for powder and bullets but I did underestimate the weight of everything and I do have some sagging - can never be too stout!

Another bench is used for cleaning and minor work and has some of my brass, parts, manuals, etc. I keep my range bags and stuff underneath this bench and this is kind of my staging area for all things. In inspect/sort brass, trim, sort, etc. It works great so I can have multiple things ongoing at different places. None of these are very far apart.

Lastly I have an area just around the corner from my loading bench that has another of the old cabinets that I keep a few odds and ends in. Next to it is a metal shelving that has ammo and bullets. I label my cans between reloads and factory ammo and try to keep everything organized. Another storage area with primers and misc stuff is not shown. Nothing fancy but it all works well for me.

stand or sit

I sit.
After 29 years walking mail routes my hips get tired standing in one position.
I do stand now and again, bench was built tall enough for comfortable standing and "stool" is modified to be tall enough for comfortable sitting at bench while prepping brass.
My reload bench (see post #3390) is arranged so I can reach almost everything I need from my reloading "stool"!

I do both. For me, it seems more natural to stand but I made both my leatherwork and handloading benches at the height that makes it comfortable for both standing and sitting on a stool.

Bench Update

Here is my bench updated after getting my "Inline Fabrication" bench riser and LED light. I went with a different roller handle because I did not favor the handle on being on one side only. Still a work in progress.
