I heard a funny story the other day from a cop friend of mine. A young Philadelphia police officer cadet started working with a veteran training sergeant in the 25th district. The Sgt. explained to the rookie that the 25th district was one of the most dangerous areas in North Philly home of the infamous "Badlands". The cadet blew off the sergeants warning explaining that he served in the Iraq war and he seen everything. Two week later the cadet requested a transfer.
Katrina showed what could happen in the US if ARMED street gangs take over post SHTF. You may be lucky and only have to deal unarmed lowlife looters, but on the other hand you may have to deal with higher end armed criminals. It could be urban gangs spilling into your area, or Meth dealers in the rural areas changing careers to home invasions post SHTF, or simply just a bunch of armed desperate neighbors that suddenly notice your prepare and they are not.
I'm not saying you should have 10,000 rounds, but you should have a decent amount of guns,mags, and ammo to fight off armed and unarmed threats.
