Perfect SHTF weapon

perfect?

Well, as it would seem and nothing really is "perfect". I think it should be a belt fed automatic thats no bigger than a mini-uzi and the belt could run inconspicuously from a backpack, WITH an interchangable barrel that would allow for longer range, also semi-auto/automatic "switch" (haha). This being said, it also needs to be cheap and very well made with reliability of the AK and accuracy of the AR. hmm, did i leave anything out?

I live in CA where I am limited to 10 rounds mags. I'm also not going to be getting 10 mags. I'll probably have 4 mags. But yeah.... if a mob of zombies is chasing me and I use up all of my mags (I said the revolver is in addition to a semi-auto), then I would bust out my revolver.

I can treat the revolver just like a single shot. If danger pops out of nowhere while I'm loading the bullets, I can just close the cylinder and start firing.

As for retreating after firing all of your bullets... I would reload the revolver first as I'm retreating (easier and faster than the semi) and be armed with the revolver. When the coast is clear, then I would reload all the mags.

Bottom line.. I think the revolver should be in any SHTF arsenal. Maybe not the first weapon, but after a rifle and semi-auto it should come third.

It should also have a can opener. :D

You could do the same with a mag from an auto.

I live in CA too, and I have nothing against revolvers, I just don't like "wheelguns are better than autos because I made up an overly-complicated scenario in which an auto would be disadvantaged" statements any more than I like "autos are better because if you have to kill seven guys then you'll have to reload the revolver" statements.

Not directed at you, just sayin'. :)

(SHTF) Confiscation?

Does this mean they actually come to your home and demand that you surrender your weapons??? I am a "GOA" member and I always sign petitions to help insure that this does not happen. In fact a senator from Louisiana got the president to sign a document stating that the Gov't would not confiscate firearms during a national emergency. I sure pray that holds true. As far as high capacity long-range handguns, I will always prefer my Beretta 92FS. High capacity, super dependable, and accurate. I believe that I would have no problem concealing this weapon if I had to. However, I also certainly hope to have my long guns (mini14, SKS, M1A, and 1187 tactical) close at hand. I am still hopeful that the SHTF scenario will be aliens (terrestrial or otherwise), or a nice zombie plague. If it is something like a comet or meteor impacting the earth or the poles reversing, we're all pretty much screwed, and guns won't matter. I was a Boy Scout as a youth and that motto of always being prepared has stayed with me. I keep enough NBC gear at hand for me and mine. Also, an ample reserve of the essentials (food, water, coffee, ciggs, toiletries etc...) I highly recommend that all of you, who don't already have it, buy some NBC gear NOW! All the guns in the world won't help you if you get dosed with enough "RADS." Or, chem or bio agents. I recommend eBay. Look for a seller called "militarygriffin." he has good, still factory sealed, late model, military issue NBC gear at great prices. But I digress. Back to the guns & ammo issue. I agree that faster is better. Bigger apparently might not be an option, but I am hopeful.
