My wife is a type 1 diabetic, therefore such insulin-dependent people we can not not flee from a possible refrigerated supply of insulin. Her very high blood sugars might blind (damage feet, hands...) or kill her in a fairly short period of time.
As for an emergency generator goes, I've never been around one (Loews has a household appliance/watt/ or joules checklist).
But knowing that they exhaust normal poisonous gases, can the proper type of (i.e. 25') extension cord connect from the fridge down a hall to the garage, where a generator would be stored?
If so, once we buy some dried food/water etc (buy much more insulin when trouble appears imminent), a fair bit of stored ammo for the new SKS (my 'simple, rugged babe'), Mini 14, 30 and Mosin 44 should help out. Although I can't hit much with the Mosin at 50 yards, these are all 'Babes' (which I hug), with which I 'cheat' on my wife, so to speak
.
Jeff F: any Mini 14/30 etc would fit in the car pretty well with the SKS as a back-up. Have you considered an LE Jungle Carbine, despite the big recoil? A guy was surprised by a grizzly and after five quick shots stopped it, a few feet away. A customer had one shipped to the same superb store which I use (Brighton Arms in B., TN: a 40 min. drive, but much better than local stores in every way). It felt lightweight, rugged and very handy.
By the way, people would break into pharmacies as quickly as they would WalMart and gun stores, before anything else. Nothing will be left over except soap and shampoo.
What do LA, Katrina and other veterans say about this?
Let's not forget that the murderous LA chaos was partly triggered by a highly-edited, intentionally incomplete CNN video tape of Rodney King-the part AFTER he fought the police. What will happen if somebody attacks a certain well-publicized "Reverend" or other "leaders"? There will be no warning in your area, unless you are outside a city.
