Easiest load development ever.

I got a deer tag for the first time in decades, and I don't really own any hunting guns. I do have a pile of Garands and have good MatchKing loads.

I took my 168gr load with IMR4064 and plugged the 165 into it.

I shot 5 rounds into a nice group over the chrony, adjusted the sights, and put five rounds into the 9 ring or better on the MR31 with a CMP special Grade garand. About 2MOA, and not only about the best I can get out of that rifle, but plenty good enough for deer. Velocity is about 90fps slower than the 168s with a standard deviation of 22. Charges are thrown on the Dillon. The Dillon measure really handles 4064 surprisingly well.

Ten round load development! Thanks Sierra!

Sweet. I'll be waiting for the deer pics...and then I expect dinner pics!

Three grains doesn't make much difference. And The Rifle purely loves 165's with IMR4064.
"...don't really own any hunting guns..." Have three. A .243, a .22 and a shotgun. Commercial hunting rifles are boring.

I started hand loading almost twenty years ago when I got into high power, shooting .308. I use the same load for the Sierra 165 SPBT as the 168. My wife and I have killed well north of 40 deer with that combo.

I didn't elaborate in my last post but I have used a 168gr Matchking for practice and a 165gr GameKing for deer and light skinned game in my 3-0-06 for a lot of years. I have found those 2 bullets allow me to use the same powder charge and no change in scope adjustments. This is for my bolt action hunting rifle, not a semi-auto. Here in PA no semi-autos allowed for hunting!

I just needed to buy the 5-round modified clips to be legal here.

I have to find some good venison recipes. I'll hope for the best.

I only have 1.5 days to hunt with an important business trip falling during the 2-week season I drew.

Since you have limited time I suggest you get out there an hour before first light and settle in before the sun comes up. That will probably give you the best chance of having them walk up on you. Try to do some scouting beforehand so you know their likely walking trails or if you're hunting on private property you might want to set out a few trail cams.

I really wish you well...
