I am back in the market for a 1911. A couple of years ago when I first looking into one, Sig had developed a reputation for inferior 1911's.

What is the scoop these days? What is the consensus on their line?

On another note, do Sig 1911's fit into traditional 1911 holsters?

Thanks!

Yes, I had one of those, in 2007. Later ones might be better but I can't say for sure.

It depends. A leather holster can be wetted lightly and stretched over time, but it will be a very tight fit at first. A rigid polymer holster, not at all. You may wish to check the website, as I think there is a model available with a traditional slide profile.

I don't think they're showing on the website, but (as I only just found out a few days ago) Sig is making slides without the 'Sig groove' or whatever it's called. Which is to say, a regular slab sided 1911.

IMO they pretty much are well past their problem stage and are a great value in a 1911 pistol. I was even shocked to hear my LGS talking customers into looking at them and saying very favorable things about them because when I purchased mine new in 2008 they tried pretty much talking me out of it.

Based on what I have been reading and hearing on other popular forums those that have bought them in the last 3 - 4 years or so mostly just love them and rave about them and many have other 1911s to compare them to.

Mine is a GSR 1911 in the serial number range of 16xxx and has been flawless through about 400 rounds and has impressed me with the quality of build, trigger, reliability, and accuracy. I have very rarely heard about a problem with the external extractor on them because many are wary with all the problems that Kimber had with them though S&W did not.

I really like mine and got it for a great price and plan to keep it. I would like to get a Colt some day also.

I totally agree with Sigarms228 - and his target pretty much sums it up! I have a Sig 1911 Tacops Carry Threaded Barrel and I can't begin to tell you how damn good this thing is! I have a friend who has 2 Springfield TRP's, Operator and Kimber Custom Covert II - needless to say after he shot my 1911 Tacops Carry TB he went and ordered one the next day! We both were getting as good or tighter groups at the farther we went out with my Sig 1911 Tacops TB 0-15 or so yards pretty equal but at 20+ my Tacops KILLED his 1911's! As far as I'm concerned I don't think you can buy a better 1911 for the money! $900 shipped to my door, and with all the options that came standard with it - you can't even come close unless you spend $1,300+

Get one! You wont be disappointed! Plus Sig's customer service is outstanding - they back-up their products !!!

After missing out on buying a Dan Wesson PM7, I settled on Sig 1911 TacPac (they come railed or non-railed) after reading several positive comprehensive reviews on TacOps. Bud's has them for $769 - http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_28/products_id/74700

My primary interest was an accurate range gun for load development and testing. Although it comes with black Nitron finish, the new XO pistols are stainless steel frame and slide with match grade components. The TacPac consistently produces dime and quarter size shot groups at 7/10/15 yards and shoots on par (if not better) with several Kimbers a shooting friend has.

Here's my TacPac and pics - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=599748

I have the 5" stainless model, SN 16k range. Shoot IDPA with it and have >10k rounds thru it. It runs like a scalded dog. Any problems are caused by my range pick up brass and my reloads.

I have the same feelings as the above posters. I couldn't be more happy with my Sig!

I feel like I'm an average shot, as you can see by the target I pulled one high and ruined my group testing loads:eek:, but I absolutely love shooting it at the range. I've shot Kimbers and Springfields, but have preferred my Sig.

Thanks for the all of the good info guys. Can anyone make a suggestion on a good retention holster for a Tac Ops?

Edit- I must admit I asked a pretty stupid question. Looks like it comes with the package.

There's an old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

And that goes for people who have seen other people get fooled or shafted. Don't trust to luck they might have improved their product, get a gun from a company with a good reputation.

They appear to have changed their way with their 1911s, they seem to be highly recommended now.

I also plan on picking one up for my 21st.

Just bought a C3 as my Christmas present. Out of the others I was looking at, Sig has one of the best customer service reputations, as well as a top quality gun. I chose it over the Kimber Pro Carry II, and the S&W 1911SC E. Haven't shot it yet, but have no worries at all. I believe Sig stands behind their reputation.

I have a Sig Scorpion, I like it a LOT, accuracy is scary!, makes me look like a good shooter, esp. at 25-50 yards. no problem digesting any of the 4 types of ammo tried so far, have around 600 trouble free rounds downrange. the night sights on this pistol are absolutely the brightest of any I have had, easy to see sitting on the night stand in my pitch-dark bedroom! I have a Streamlight TLR-S light attached to the rail. I never even considered a railed 1911 before, but it is a really nice package! I live by myself way out in the boonies at the end of a dead-end road.911 response time is not very fast, to say the very least. this setup is a comforting addition to my meager arsenal! A.J.
