Sig GSR 1911s

How are the newer Sig GSR 1911s these days. I know there were a few issues with some of the earlier ones. I only own one 1911 style pistol (a CZ DW CBOB .45 (all stainless commander size)) and now I'm thinking of getting a full size all black or black/stainless two-tone 5" model sometime this year. I have looking at black and two-tone Kimbers and Springfields, also the CZ DW Valor on the web, but lately I started looking at Sig's website and looking at their 1911s. The one Sig 1911 that really caught my attension is their TTT model:

I really dig the two-tone look on that pistol and also the Sig like lines (kinda like a cross between a Sig P220 and a regular 1911) on it. Is it true that the Sig GSR 1911s don't fit regular 1911 holsters. Anyone have the TTT model, or any other Sig 1911 model for that matter? If so, how do you like it. Are they worth it? Thanks.

The earliest GRS's had problems as you have said. They had Caspian frames and top notch patrs from many sources. They were akin to custom built guns on many levels. They were very tight and I think that is where some of the troubles came in. After that SIG started doing more in-house with the GRS and there was a group of fairly early guns that had the best of both worlds, still made from outside sourced top grade parts and some from SIG. Many think these were some of the finest of the GSR so far. My gun is from this production period and it is an amazingly good gun that has been flawless.

After that SIG brought all of the production in-house the problems seemed to have been solved with bugs worked out. Some argue that newer guns aren't as good as the old, but I would wonder about that. Some also argue that the external extractor is an issue, but like the SW1911 it hasn't been an issue at all, and seems to be more an issue for the purist. If I was in the market for a SIG GSR today I would have absolutely no concerns. i bought a sig gsr with a rail a couple months back
i should be reaching the thousand round mark this weekend
its a great gun
best reliability great accuracy
the only thing i can think of that is different
is its a bit thicker and heavier and a bit more square
than other 1911s
but it also feels stronger
like i could drop a 100 lbs weight on it
and the pistol would actually bend the weight
then go and shoot a thousand rounds without a problem
so if your looking for a 1911 thats a little different
the gsr is a great great handgun

I think he GSR seems thicker due to some of the contouring, but in a thread some time back we actually compared the thickness of the GSR to other 1911's and found the GSR to have the identical thickness, and in a few instances it's a hair more narrow. I think that issues with holster fit (not all holsters) may be due to some of the more SIG-like contours on the slide rather than overall thickness.

In fact, here's the info:

I took my Sig GSR Revolution, SW1911, and Detonics Combat Master and measured the thickness of the slide. With the GSR the meaurement was taken at the lower part where it flares out. The results:

SW1911: .91 inches
Detonics Combat Master: .91 inches
SIG GSR Revolution: .91 inches

Also, if you measure the width above the flare on the SIG slide the thickness goes down to .85 inches.

I don't have a SA or Kimber to measure, but I'm betting on somewhere close to if not .91 inches. All of the specs that I can find put 1911 widths right at
.91" and larger.

Bottom line is that the SIG is the same width as any mil-spec 1911, and in one measure more narrow. There may be exceptions, but they are out of the ordinary.
