First let me say that I don't know if I have a problem or not.

I bought a used sig 220 sight/unseen from a pretty reputable pawn shop back home. (My best freind works there) She brought the pistol to me this weekend and I looked it over and put it on the shelf. Last night I stripped it cleaned and lubed it and put it back together for some dry firing. I put a snap cap in it and began pulling the trigger.

When I pull the trigger the hammer will not stay down on the plunger. It will rebound whether I release the trigger or not. This is definetly not how all of my other auto loaders are but this is my first sig.

So next I put a pencil eraser first down the barrell and pulled the trigger. The pencil shot out but not very far. (compared to other pistols it went about half as far)

Is this normal?
Is it relatively easy to fix?
Or do I need to be asking for a refund?

Thanks
Evan

What you got right there is a correctly working SIG.

Just so we're clear (plunger isn't the usual term), you are noticing that once the hammer strikes the firing pin, it bounces back a couple of degrees, as if spring loaded? That is the way it works, and a safety device.

As you play with the gun you will notice that this position that the hammer springs to is also the position it falls to on decock. You will also notice that once you take you finger off the trigger, the hammer is blocked there and can't be pushed forward anymore. All normal, and a great design.

Congrats on your Sig purchase. Great gun, and one of many peoples favorite .45s.:)

Great thanks!!!!!

I knew that was where the hammer came after decock I just didn't know it would rebound when fired. None of my other three auto loaders do that they will rest on the firing pin when fired without live ammo.

Yeah, it's a little strange, but works pretty well. I don't think it's even complicated - I think the mainspring just overcenters and corrects.

Great gun. The definitive DA/SA.
