Just sent a money order to buy an actual W. German P228 (my first), and already having a brand-new (retail) M11 A1, can't remember advice at Sig Talk about whether a mag from either type will function reliably in both guns.

It might seem to be a dumb question, but even though the factory M11 A1 grips are labeled "228", this gun is actually a variation of the 229 (designed for the .40 S&W round).

The 228 is the predecessor to the 229 and M11 A1.

The standard P-228/229 magazines will function in your M-11A1, albeit a little loosely, but the P-229-1 magazines from your M-11A1 (they are clearly marked as such with the dash-1) will NOT fit in the original P-228.

Sort of...The 9mm 229 and the 228 share the same magazines. The M-11 is the military version of the 228 and also share the same magazine.

The 229 was based on the package size of the 228, but were manufactured in the US and sized to accommodate the .40/357SIG cartridge. The 9mm 229 was a 228 with a milled slide, the 228 has the folded slide, with the 229 profile.

The .40/357SIG 229 have always used a different frame and wider magazine...the 9mm 229-1 share a frame with magazine with the other 229 models. The M-11A1 uses the same frame as the 229-1.

As posted earlier, 228 and 9mm 229 magazines will fit into the larger frames, but will be loose. The 229-1 magazines will not fit into the 228 or 9mm 229 frames
