Just picked up an LEO trade-in Sig 229 (regular ol' DA/SA trigger) with rail, night sights, 3 12rd mags for $550. The gun looks almost new. Really. Not a scratch on it, and no holster wear to speak of. I doubt if it's even seen much more than a few hundred rounds. I figured I was lucky to get ahold of it at that price and in that condition. I had an older 229 before and loved it, regretted selling it (although it was to help obtain an HK .45). Wanted this one so bad, I traded my ol' Beretta Cougar 8045 in on it. I didn't shoot that thing much anyway, although it was a good gun.

I just wanted to know if anyone knows of any problems these newer Sigs are having. I've heard some problems are being experienced with newer 226s and 220s. I hope such is not the case with all the railed guns. Any help or insight is appreciated. My serial number starts with the letters AM and then the numbers 34 if that means anything.

No problems at all in general. That's not to say that you can't get a Sig thats a lemon, but that doesn't happen very often. The LEO trade ins are generally good purchases. They often haven't been shot much. The gun probably has a the Sig nitron finish. It generally holds up pretty well. You can always send it to Sig for the SSP service. You get new night sights, springs, a complete cleaning and going over, and a box for $129.00 plus shipping.
The P229 is a tank - go shoot the be-jesus out of it. Check out the Sig Club here on THR (in my signature).

I would bet you will be just fine. Don't be afraid to dry fire a lot also. It will help you become a better shot and smooth up the trigger at the same time.

Agree, but

Just a friendly reminder to buy/use some snap caps for the dry-firing.

Only problem that may pop up are the magazines may need cleaning and dry lubrication, other than that, no problems with any of my Sigs, 2 of which have rails. I mentioned the magazine cleanup only because my NIB P232 SL had feed problems every 3rd or 4th round with the first 300 rounds. Then I took the magizines apart, cleaned them, lubed them with EEZOX, and todate, 1135 rounds, no feed failures, just 100%.

Enjoy,

LS

I have a SIG 229 Rail that I use as my primary carry weapon and I have had no problems with it and I cannot praise it enough.

I just recently purchased a SIG 229 SAS with fixed sights and this thing shoots 3 inches low and to the right at about 15 feet.
I have 5 SIGs with fixed sights and all of them have been very accurate out of the box; the SAS is very disappointing - time to call SIG for this one.

Dont worry, if its a CPO (red box) you have a full one year warranty. Shoot it a lot, you won't be disappointed. 9mm or 40/.357?

Didos of everything said..the p229 is a wonderful gun. I should trade my Cougar 8040 in for another one! I love this gun and I'm sure you will too.

This is my LEO trade-in 229. I paid $500.00. Since it was manufactured in 1996, I sent it off to Sig for new internals. I also purchased new mags and new factory grips/screws. A local gunsmith put on the Tru-Glo sights. I dry fire it and shoot it with no problems. They are the tank of autoloaders.
