SIG 239- 9MM, Yes or No

Gents, I want to buy a Sig 239 in 9mm and have read only good things about this pistol. I was wondering if anyone has anything positive or negative to add other than the price is a little on the high side. I kind of think you get what you pay for. I am looking for a pistol that you can shoot on a regular basis and small enough to carry. I have a smith 637 for my usual c.c.w.

I picked up a pre-owned 239, 40SW (from an LEO). Works great, very accurate, little recoil. Always with me.

you already have a smith ,why not a compact single stack 9/40 smith wesson,hear alot of good things out of them,probably buy 2 for what a sig runs.but either would serve you well.

I have a P239 in 357SIG/.40 (the barrels swap out). Its a great pistol, accurate and easy to shoot well with.

Its really not all that small, especially when you compare it to other SIG's, like the P229. The P229, depending on caliber, will give you half again, to almost twice the ammo in the the gun, with little real noticeable difference in size. If your seriously considering the P239, I'd suggest looking at it and the P229 side by side at the same time before you make your decision.

My only complaint with the P239 is the stock grips. They are a little skinny for my liking, and need more swell through the palm.

Price wise, you can find some good deals on used SIG's in very good to excellent condition. I paid $550 for mine used, and it was basically in NIB condition when I bought it. I recently missed (and literally by minutes) an equally as nice P239 in 9mm with three mags that sold for $450. There are deals out there if you shop around. There is also the SIG "CPO" route, if you can find one.

I'm a big fan of the 9mm Sig P239. I've had one for about a year, buying it slightly used for $575. It is accurate, reliable and easily concealed. I also think it looks good. I use a Desantis pancake holster to carry it OWB.

Considered a 239, a Kahr K9, and an S&W. Went with a used SW3953 DAO (8+1) for around $400. Don't like the price or grip on the Sig, the price or single strike DAO of the Kahr (I do like the trigger and find them accurate). Went with the SW.

I was planning on a 3913 until I shot the P239. For me, the P239 shoots like a target pistol in comparison.

I recently purchased an ever so slightly used P239/357sig; it took me a while to find one in that caliber. It had Tritium sights and 2 mags. I bought 4 more used police mags from Top Gun Supply that had never been removed from their plastic sleeves and added Hogue rubber finger grips like the ones in Mainsail's photo . Great shooter. I really like the DA/SA and the position of the decockers, mag release and slide lock on Sig Sauer handguns; I own 3 different Sigs. YMMV

Georgia-Arms sells ammo boxes called "Canned Heat". These are 500/1000 rounds of 357sig that zip right along at 1300fps. Very good stuff. Good luck in your decision.

The P239 is a great gun. I have a 9mm with the factory grips, which fit my smaller hands well. Mostly I use it in IDPA competition in an IWB holster, and the available 10-round mags.

Almost precisely my experience. I sold the P239 because it just didn't feel that great in my hand. The Hogue grip improved it dramatically, but it still just wasn't quite right for me.

I now have a P228, and the minimal difference in size gives a much better package for me. Higher round count, better fit to my hand, very accurate.

It wasn't designed to feel great in your hand, it was designed from the beginning to be a pistol that you can get a decent grip on yet conceal fairly easily. Something it does very well.

Well, I know the gun was not designed with my hand in mind, but neither was the P228, yet it fits me much better, which makes me a more accurate shooter.

The OP asked "if anyone has anything positive or negative to add." I gave my experience, and why for me the P228 is a better carry gun than the P239.

I think you're missing my point, there are a lot of pistols that will fit your hand better than the 239. Very few of them will give you a decent grip and still conceal as easily, especially in the warmer months.

With the little extra swell provided by the Houge checkered Coco Bolo grips I have for mine, its a very comfortable grip. To bad SIG doesnt offer their stock grips with a "little more swell" option. I really prefer the stock grips over anything else.

Those same Houge grips have a very similar feel to my P229.

The size difference between the P239 and most of the other SIG's is insignificant when it comes to carrying the gun. Only the P230/232 is truly smaller.

The only 2 negative things I can say about it are that it is heavier and has less magazine capacity than competing guns. Beyond that, it is a fine piece and I really like my .40.

I'd just make sure that it feels right to you. It is a very good weapon and although expensive, it may be the one that is truly worth it to you. It does have a more narrow grip which makes it lay more flat against your waist. Reliability and accuracy are excellent as everyone has attested. I personally would rather have a P230 or P232 for carry due to size. It's even smaller...

I had one and had to trade it off.
The DA trigger pull was so long that my fingers would jam up and I would have to uncurl my trigger finger to get it to fire.

I traded it in for a Sig P6/P225 which fit me much better, like a night and day difference, even though they are very similar in size.

Loved the P226 too, but the P239 just did not fit me.

I like my 9mm.

I have small hands. It carries comfortably.

I shot it for some time in competition and did well (for me). I was surprised at the good 25yd accuracy. I used 10rd mags.

The slide definitely 'loosened' up after 5K? rds. I mean loose, but it still shot ok. I noticed a little "scatter" in the patterns, but I'd been shooting a CZ for a while.

It's on my nightstand.
