I'm trying to decide on my next subcompact Sig purchase and I was wondering just how much of a size difference there is between the 232 and the 239. Does anyone have any pictures of the two together? I'd like to get a width and height comparison view of them together if someone should be so kind. Thanks a bunch. :)

I do not have any pics. The 232 is not only slightly smaller than the 239, but10 ounces lighter as well!

I own and shoot both guns, but unfortunately do not have comparison photos. To start you off, I'd advise taking a look at www.imaginekitty.com/SIGchart/ . The data there seem pretty accurate, with one caveat. The chart shows both pistols as having a width of 1.2". That's probably right if you are talking about the widest part, which is across the grips and the decocking lever. But if you look at both from a top view you would note a big difference in the width of the slide: .855" for the P232 vs. .970" for the P239. This is the dimension that's important if you want to carry in an inside-the-waistband holster. The chart also does not include the weight of (7) .380 cartridges or (8) 9mm cartridges, a difference that needs to be considered. (I don't have a good scale to measure those weights.) I personally use the P239 for IDPA matches, although I use suspenders to help support the weight. My carry gun is a P230 (same as P232). I feel the .380 is adequate for self defense and is easy to carry. You didn't say what you would be using your new purchase for, but hopefully the above will help.

Hauptmann,

the P232 is:

Overall Length 6.60"
Overall Height 4.70"
Overall Width 1.20"

The P239 is:

Overall Length 6.6 inches
Overall Height 5.1 inches / 5.2 inches
Overall Width 1.2 inches

You get a significant increase in power with the P239, but it is only slightly larger.

This is a P230 (the 232's predecessor) against a P239 with slightly larger than factory grips. The difference is nothing you'd notice "size" wise. as was mentioned, the 230/232 is a good bit lighter (the SS version is a little heavier than the blued) than the 239.

Ahh, thanks for the help and the pictures. Size wise I do see enough of a difference overall to warrant stepping down to the .380. I always told myself I would never carry anything smaller than a 9x19mm, but given the weight and size difference I just might consider. This will mostly be for concealed carry and I'm one of those comfort freaks. I try to milk every little bit of comfort and convenience out of something.

There are good, reliable .380 auto's that are quite a bit smaller than the SIG 230/232. Also, I'm not sure I'd ever get to like the magazine release which is on the bottom of the grip, unlike most others on the side of the grip.

I think the Walther PPK, Astra Constable (no longer in production unfortunately), Bersa .380, and one of the Beretta models are all physically smaller than the SIG.

Please note, I own two SIG pistols, so being a SIG product is not an issue for me.

You may wish to shoot a p232 before purchasing. Some folks, like me for example, experience slide bite. I have to take an awkward low, unnatural grip to avoid the slide bite.

That said, it's accurate, reliable, and pretty.
