Hey to all,

I've been thinking about taking the SIG plunge and getting a 239. I want honest opinions(NOT HEARSAY), on this gun. I own Glocks and XD's and was thinking about the 239 fpr CCW. hpg

Not a small gun, more G19 in size with a thinner grip. My 9mm shoots very nicely and is 100% reliable with a variety of ammo. The heavy pull for the first shot will take some practice, after that the SA trigger is crisp at about 4lbs. Accuracy is excellent. Magazines are expensive. Carries well and is very smooth and rounded in a snag free way. Stainless Nitron finish is durable and makes the gun rust free if neglected.
Many will recommend smaller guns, but I consider this and the G19/26 the smallest autos I can carry easily, shoot well and shoot quite a bit for practice without running into the drawbacks of the runt guns.
I have size 10 hands and find the grip less in size than the G19, but comfortable. It is an excellent grip size for small to average hands.

i really like the 239 in 40. it is as small as a 40 s&w chambering can be while maintaining an easy-to-shoot, comfortable to handle gun. i see no flies on this gun, and think it is tops for concealed carry.

I've had a 239 in .40 almost since they were introduced. It is my carry gun 80% of the time. I have both the .357Sig and .40 barrels/mags and both run flawlessly.

It is one of my all time favorite handguns.

It was my first Sig and is the main reason for my interest in Sigs at all.

I figured if the 239 was this good, the rest of the line must be as well.

I have to say that I've not enjoyed the other Sig models as much as the 239.

If you are considering a new one check into the new model. It's "melted" much more and is a bit more CCW friendly. It's not enough difference for me to justify trading up, so I have not had much experience with it.

Can't beat the P239. If there is a gun comparable it's the G23. I believe the P239 is the back up gun issued to ATF agents and other highly funded government agencies. The P239 might be a little more sophisticated than the Glocks, but the P239 goes bang every time. It likes a little more lube than my Glocks.

P239 Opinions

Wife and I each have a P239 9mm. You can't beat them in my opinion. Never had one FTF in either one. Easy to field strip, clean, and shoot. I carry it in the cool weather months. Quality is unsurpassed. I'd buy one again, but in DAK trigger and SAS style.

Loved the p220 so much...

Got the 239 in 40 for a smaller ccw. Skate board tape on the front of the grip along with agressive checkering of the original grip helps a lot. It's sort of a smallish handle (single stack) on a recoil friendly stainless slide. You either adjust to the grip or sell the gun (to me please!).
Packs better than any gun I've ever tried. It disappears. I truly love mine and highly recommend it.
Accurate, reliable, and did I say it carries better than any gun I've ever tried?
My El Paso Saddlery holster for the 629 .44 magnum works as a IWB cross draw with the 239.;)

It is my next gun they just seem to be a little tricky to get right now at least in 9mm.

I love my new SAS!! I have a G23 and am a huge Glock fan - but I have to say this one is better in most areas - except in mag capacity and price!!

Sig 239

I currently own Sigs. A 225,two 226's, a 239,a sig pro, and a sig mosquito in 22. love every one of them, except the sig pro. there is something about it that doesn't feel good to me but I must say that I have never had any problems at all with any of them.

I've had my P239 for 5 years. In that time I have not had a single malfuction. I have both the .40S&W and .357SIG barrels and it handles both cartridges suprisingly well for a small pistol. If you have large hands, as I do, the Hogue finger groove rubber grips are highly recommended. It's my Secondary CCW pistol when clothing doesn't permit me to carry my P229R-DAK (also in the same calibers). The P239 SAS DAK is quite possibly the best CCW pistol on the market today.

I just sold my P239 357 Sig only because I couldn't get comfortable with the grip. I tried both the stock & Hogue grips. Loved everything else about the pistol, but I need something for CCW and my P226R won't cut it. :) I'm probably moving to a P229 (if I don't blow the money on a rifle or something else first :p).

I have several of the bigger Sigs (228, 2 - 229s) and like them a lot. Don't have a 239 but have handled a few in my local gun store. Based on their feel, my general experience with Sigs, and the reports of a few 239 owners I know, they seem to be a very good handgun if a bit heavy.

For me, they don't do anything my Glocks won't do for me. But if I didn't carry Glocks, this would be a serious contender for a carry pistol. You could do a lot worse than a 239. Give it a try and see.

My brother bought a lightly used one about two months ago. It's an absolutely incredible little pistol. The first shot I ever fired from it, double action no less, hit about a half-inch to the right of the bullseye. I'm not a very good shot either, that was a rarity. My groups with the pistol were still quite good for my skill level. Recoil is minimal, the grip shape is very comfortable and the overall width is quite slim, making it ideal for CCW. It doesn't have the capacity of a double stack, but it doesn't have the width of one either. The downside is that magazines are extremely expensive (~$50) and difficult to find. Brownells doesn't even carry them, if that tells you anything. I'm a die-hard .45/1911 guy, but if I would still be very happy carrying a P239.

I love my 239 and carry it daily.I chose to go with 9mm as I can afford to practice more with it and I find it more enjoyable to shoot than in .40/.357SIG.The extra round is nice to have as well.It replaced a P230 as my daily gun and I've been very, very happy with it.The grip doesn't exactly fit my gorilla paw the best, but I do shoot it very well,or at least as well as I shoot any pistol.Magazines have been easy to find on Ebay for $20 each.

The grip on the 239 is too small for me. Otherwise, it's a nice gun, if it fits you.

I recently bought a new P239 with night sights and three magazines from my local dealer. The first time at the range I was absolutely amazed at how much more accurately I can shoot this gun. I’m not a very good shot, I’m impatient and I’m a terrible flincher. However, with a little practice I was able to get some pretty good groups. I had to change my grip as my thumb was keeping the slide stop from engaging at times.

The target below is from 30 feet, offhand, eight rounds, all double action. Note the ‘flyer’ which is me flinching on the first shot.

I can highly recommend the P239.

My experience is much like that of EOD Guy. I have had my P239 for a little less than 9 years now. (Wow! It doesn't seem that long!) I put the Hogue grip on it about 4 or 5 years ago and carry it in an Alessi Talon.

I don't have a huge handgun collection, but the P239 is the only handgun I have that has never, not once, failed to fire, failed to extract, failed to eject, failed to do anything expected of it.

It has been 100.0% reliable, and it has had several thousands of rounds of various brands of ammo including about 70% reloads. I cannot say that for any other handgun I own, including my revolvers (although the revolver malfs were all ammo related). Well, come to think of it, that's no longer true. I just bought a S&W K17 that has been flawless up to this point. But, it is 43 years old and I'll bet it met some ammo it didn't like in its previous life! But I digress. :)

The accuracy has been the same as Mainsail just demonstrated. It never fails to amaze me. The DA is so smooth, I have placed a dime on the front sight and dry fired hundreds of times in a row withoout it falling off. Try that with most any other handgun.

If the P239 fits your hand, and that's a big if, it will serve you flawlessly.

P239 + Night sites + Hogue grips + Milt Sparks VMII holster = Concealed Carry goodness.:D

The 239 in 9mm is my best shooter. I didn't care for the stock grips and the Houge aftermarket grips made it a perfect fit. I haven't had an opportunity to fire a 239 in .40SW and I would like to.

I have a Glock 23 and I like it alot but it still doesn't shoot as well as the 239 so the 239 get's carried out the door more often.
Maybe the .40 just isn't for me. Allthough a Glock 19 might be a nice addition, hmmmm.:uhoh:

:)

+1 I have mine in 9mm, though. Bar-dot sights took about a mag to get used to, and then it was easily the most accurate *small* gun I have ever fired. For carry purposes, one in the pipe and DA first shot is very appealing.
