I am in the market for a new 9mm DA/SA. I have narrowed my choices down to either the H&K USP or the Sig 226.

I wanted your input as to which of these are more accurate and superior

You would be fine with either.

Both are fine firearms, trying to draw the line btwn those 2 is splitting hairs.

On a side note, if I were going to get an H&K in 9mm I would go with a P2000 or P30. The USP is rather large for a 9mm.

Both are great guns, equally reliable. I just have a soft spot for Sigs. I own one of each but there's just something about a Sig. I carry my USP more but just because the Sig stays in the night stand since it has night sights.

i'm with hm2pac. USP versus 226 = 226 hands down.
Better gun (imho:cuss:) if you want something that big. That being said, I really want a p30 or p2000 in 9mm. 226 is something that I want, but probably in .357.

My suggestion to you is go somewhere that you can rent both guns. Try them out. See which one you like best. I did that and I decided I liked HK better ymmv.

There are many reasons that I liked the HK more. The HK lined up better for me. I felt I was more accurate with the HK. It was my first gun and I didn't know that I'd buy more so I wanted something that wasn't so common. I bought the HK USP Compact Tactical .45 with the threaded barrel. I wanted to have the ability to attach a suppressor down the road.

It's been almost 2 yrs since then and now I'm thinking about adding a Sig to my collection. Leaning toward the Equinox .45.

I choose Sig over H&K.

Granted they both make fine guns and I wouldn't mind having many of each but if I had to choose between a USP or a 226 I would have to go 226 in the end. IMHO you can't go wrong with a 226 or any 22* series Sig. I have a 229 that love and I wish I hadn't sold my 226 years ago, but I was a poor college student and had to pay bills. If I were to buy a new Sig however a 226 would be top of the list.

buy a glock 23 !
Re-read the original post again, the poster is asking whether to buy a 226 or a USP:rolleyes:

Get yourself a P2000 or P30. Hate to say it, but these are better guns than P226.

I had the Sig and traded it off for the H&K because of feed issues. I really liked the feel and quality of the Sig but the one I had, had a real tight chamber that just wouldn't feed reliably even after new springs and having the ramp polished regardless of what ever ammo I shot. I will say the magazines for the Sig are a lot cheaper then for my USP. IMO my Sig was fluke and I think they are a real good gun. However, I really do like my USP and I am good with it so I am not sure I would buy another Sig now or not.

The USP-9 is my department's issue pistol for uniformed carry. Butt-ugly, but reliable, durable and reasonably accurate.

However, when I carry a DA/SA semi-auto (not the usual 1911) off-duty ... it's a SIG (228 or 226). Likewise, just about every guy I work with carries anything but an H&K off-duty ...

I might give the edge in durability (for long-term hard use) to the H&K, but as far as accuracy, the nod goes to the SIG. Reliability is a wash ...

I think you can do more with the SIG's trigger (different options available to change the pull according to personal preference), which is better out of the box than the H&K's anyway ...

And I challenge anyone to tell me the clunky USP has demonstratably superior ergonomics to the SIG P-series (in my experience, more folks will say the SIGs feel much better in the hand) or can be concealed nearly as well.

As others have noted, even though the OP did not ask, H&K does produce some other fine pistols; the P2000 comes to mind, and the P30 seems an enticing little package. However, because of the allure of traditional steel and wood, the SIG wins on class points alone; you can get nice duo-tone packages and dress 'em up with nifty wood stocks ... rather than put up with a boxy black critter with cheese-grater checkering on the plastic frame ...

And hey, how 'bout the folks that say things such as
Get yourself a P2000 or P30. Hate to say it, but these are better guns than P226.
but can't be troubled to type out even a sentence or two in support of their opinions?

Either one should serve you well. Both are reliable, out of the box accurate.

It largely comes down to having the chance to put your hands on both, and see which one feels better. And maybe get the chance to shoot them, and see which one you prefer.

Depends on exact variant and expected use but I didn't vote as I hold both guns in high regard. Do you like polymer or metal? Do you like a manual safety? Two factors to think of.

I can't get too far into this debate. HK's are a little hard to come by in my area. I only know of one gun shop that has any to look at. Don't know why, they really don't seem to be any more expensive than a Sig. That being said, I have not seen many negative comments about HK's on any forums. There are many folks out there that seem quite fond of them.
But I do have 5 Sigs with a 226 on the way. 2 of mine have been purchased new, and the others were used. All have been perfect, and as accurate as they can be in my hands. I do not like the newer models with the rails, so I'm pretty much going to be buying used from now on, but that is not a problem.
I do agree with Old Dog. All my Sigs are 2 tone, and with a nice set of wood grips they are great looking. I know it doesn't make them shoot any better, and it might be money better spent on something else, but when you take one out of the range bag, and people come over to look at it, it makes you feel good. Kind of like putting a nice set of wheels on a car.

By the way Old Dog, I like this one better.

buy a glock 23 !

It's hard to dispute a well thought out argument.

Gents, you've got to try new HK45, 45c, and P30, you'll be blown away. Sig does not compare to those, in terms of ergonomics, durability, accuracy, and design. BTW, HK and Sigs are comparable in price (expensive) these days.

I have a 226 .40 on the way, my first Sig. Other guns are Glocks and a 1911. I really want to like H&K cause I hear great things about quality and reliability, but every time I shoot one, I can't hit anything cause of the triggers.

Between the USP and P226, I prefer the P226. It's more ergonomic in my hands, the trigger is better in both DA/SA, and the sights are better.

But I prefer the P2000 over the USP and P226.

If it makes a difference to you some people in the US Military get issued Sig P228s or P226s, but the USP is not in the US inventory. I am not trying to imply that I think the USP is inferior, just that for whatever reason we ended up buying Sigs to put in tank crew hands or the hands of a select few Naval personnel.

If I were going to buy one I would want the Sig more but probably end up with the USP because it fits my hand better.

H&K makes a great $400-$500 gun that they sell you for $700-$900. Sorry H&K guys, but the math just doesn't add up.

While the Sig & HK are great firearms I prefer a Glock in 9mm.

I'd get the Sig or Hk in .40

I love my SIGs, very well made guns. I've shot HKs but never owned one. It is hard to compare something you own with something you've just shot a little, but from my experiences borrowing and renting the two, I own 2 SIGs and no HKs.
