I received my mailing labels today from Sig Sauer along with the approval to send my 320 in for the voluntary upgrade (as it is being called). I have a couple of questions. I called SS but they are closed today due to the snow storm in the northeast.
  1. Should I send the slide in along with the receiver.
  2. I had fiber optic sights installed by a gunsmith, do I have to have them removed. The letter I got from Sig says that 3rd party accessories must be removed.

You need to send in the complete pistol (except for the magazine). The slide will need to be milled for the head of the disconnector. I heard about one person whose pistol came back with a new slide. That was early in the upgrade process. Perhaps there was some type of screw up with the slide milling.

I do not believe you need to remove aftermarket sights. It probably wouldn't hurt to check with SIG customer service to be certain.

Those individuals who are having subcompact P320s upgraded will have the original grip module exchanged for a newly designed one that has a longer tang. If you have a carry, compact, or full-model, the grip module will not be changed. If you have any extra slides or caliber X-change kits, they need to be sent in as well for slide milling.

pblanc's post is absolutely on point

The reason they request/suggest that 3rd party accessories be removed is so that they don't have to be responsible for them...either damage or loss...during the conversion process. If you choose to not remove them, you assume all involved risk

I think I would rather take the chance and leave the fiber optic sights on and if something happens to them, I'll get new ones. I think that would be better than taking them off before I send the gun in and put them back on when it comes back. The thing that concerns me the most is them refusing work on the gun because of the aftermarket parts.

I'm guessing they'll be accomodating with the caveat of holding no liability if anything 3rd party is damaged during the shipping or factory modification. It's not like the sights are affecting what they are doing like an aftermarket trigger might.

I just got off the phone with Sig Sauer and they said it was not a problem to leave the sights on it that I had installed.

Off it goes

I find the gun every bit as "good shooting" after the upgrade with no discernable negatives. I hope you feel the same way when yours comes back.

I'm totally Team 320 at this point as far as polymer 9s go.

I hope I do too, I sold by Sig 226 to get it

I left my Apex trigger installed when I sent my gun back. Seriously, some people paid money to have theirs installed, and would then need to pay more money to have it removed. That is not acceptable.

They sent it back in a baggie. I like the new trigger so far.

You're very lucky, it could have easily been loss.

Guys I know with the Apex or GGI triggers just took them out before mailing their guns in
I wrapped mine in bubble-wrap and put it in a small cardboard box, then taped it securely. I didn't much feel like burrowing into the crawlspace to get the factory box. Came back looking the same as it left, with a new factory box, decal, morale patch, and the Apex trigger in a sack.
