I'm considering buying a Sig 365 with a manual safety. I usually pocket carry my S&W 442 in a soft holster and have a concern about the safety possibly snagging.

I would like to hear the good and the bad about that feature. And, if Is it really necessary?

I have a Sig P365 and a P365XL both with manual safeties. I appendix carry in a Kydex holster so the safety is especially important to me when re-holstering the firearm. I have extensively trained my psyche that everytime the weapon is drawn the safety comes off as part of the process. All of my semi-auto firearms are equipped with thumb safeties. It offers me peace of mind to have it equipped with a safety. YMMV.

No manual safety for me on my SIGs, (or my Glocks, HKs, Kahrs); I just don't see the need to add a complication (as watch makers say) into the equation.

I have a P365 with a manual safety. For IWB I prefer a firearm that has a manual safety. But it’s a personal choice like Coke vs. Pepsi. I certainly wouldn’t consider a Glock or a revolver unsafe in a holster, and there is no manual safety option there. So it’s really up to you so far as the safety or not. I have not had any holster hangups due to the safety...

I have 2, both with safeties. I don't have an issue with a Glock, or most other striker fired guns with no safety as long as they are carried in a proper holster. But a proper holster isn't always the best option and carried without one I like a safety. I'm used to a 1911, so having one is a non-issue for me.

Trigger pull is also something to consider. The Sig 365 has a lighter trigger than most striker fired guns. I also have a Smith M&P with an Apex trigger adjusted to about 3 lbs. That gun also has a 1911 style safety and I'd not carry a pistol with a 3 lb trigger without one no more than I'd carry one of my 1911's without the safety engaged. A Glock at 6 lbs yes; in a holster.

My 365 is either in a glovebox, or IWB. My wife carries hers in her purse. I wouldn't reach into a glovebox or purse to retrieve a gun with a loaded chamber and no safety other than a true DA revolver.

Never had a negative issue with the safety on either of them. The design is well thought out. If someone doesn't like the safety it works just fine without using it. I like having the option.

I pocket carry my non safety 365 in a small kydex holster. I doubt a safety would snag on anything while drawing. If you feel better with a safety then go that route, if you decide you don't need it you don't have to use it.

Personally I am a dao only shooter. Love the Kahr and the Beretta Nano and Carry and of course they do not have a safety nor need one IMO.
I use to shoot the LC9S but only when it had a safety, but finally got rid of it because I felt the trigger to be to light and unsafe. And I trained with that safety and other safety's for many years before moving on.
Now to get a suggestion for the OP on his question of a safety or no safety for the 365. I will say listen to all the opinions and make your choice on what you feel comfortable with, but realizing you have to train quite a bit for the memory/muscle development for the safety. Likewise a dao requires a lot of training to master as well.
Now there is a video of Paul Harrell where he speaks highly of the 365 but states "I recommend that if you are going to get a gun like this, to get one with a safety".I have shot about a thousand rounds from the 365, very nice gun, but I would also get the safety. And of course that is just my personal opinion. I know others will disagree . Good luck and shoot safe.

PS I also see that you previously carried a 642 revolver (I carry that gun as well). Then you should feel competent with a dao.. So Perhaps, you might also look for a new pistol in dao as well.

The safety levers are pretty narrow on the 365, never had a problem with them snagging on anything.

No manual safety for me as well. Also not on my CZs, SIGs, and Ruger I use for SD. Thus all have the same or very similar manual of arms. I pocket carry my P365 in a proper holster, so I have need of no extra safety to defeat on my CCW.

Only you can determine if a safety is necessary, MI2600. It depends on how you will carry and for sake of consistency (manual of arms), possibly on what other SD firearms you might use.

This is a gun on my radar for sure. I like the extra capacity. For now, I still like my P938 better for the better safety and hammer fire. Safety is much much better.

I carried the P938 SAS for two years until the P365 was released. The P938 is a fine firearm, but I never did get comfortable carrying in condition 1.

Thanks, WheelGunMan. Sounds like they're very different guns if you're trying to keep a 9mm pistol as compact as possible. "XL" for "Extra Large"?

I personally prefer the XL. I like the larger grip. I have the pinky extension bottom plates on my P365 making them about as long as the XL. I carry IWB appendix so the extra length is negligible. The grip on the XL has more girth and fits my hands better.

3.1" barrel vs 3.7"; 10 round mag vs 12 round mag; 2 finger grip vs full grip; 17.8 oz vs 20.7 oz.
Hmmmmmm, I get a 3 finger grip on my 365; I also use 12 round mags; yes the barrel on the XL is a little longer which is nice. But the regular 365 is easier to conceal

I get a 3 finger grip when I use the mags with the pinky extension... which I prefer... otherwise my pinky is beneath the grip. With the pinky extension the grip is pretty much the same length as the XL. Don't get me wrong, I love my P365.. just love the XL more.

I shoot my standard P365 just as well with the 10 round mag as I do with the 12 round extended one that I get more grip with, and I have wide hands, so the 12 “feels” better, but doesn’t shoot better, at least for me.

I love the optic ready option of the XL

My P365 has no safety, but the slide stop is thin and snag free, the safety doesn’t look like it would be an issue, but I like mine sans the safety

This ^^^^

I am very specific with my holster choices, and if carrying in the pocket, I prefer a safety as well. But I've never tried a kydex pocket holster, so maybe it makes a difference. In general I don't pocket carry though, as I find my particular sitting posture allows a gun to fall out. I carry a P938 IWB most of the time.
