I have been reloading now for about 20 years, But I am rather new at loading a Sig, Model 1911SS in 45 ACP. I have been doing good with Berry's 230 RN,but I would like to move on to a Berry's 200 Gr. flat nose. The problems have been with cycling the round. I loaded only six today @ 1.180 C.O.L. w/WLP primer, and Hodgdon Titegroup @ 4.9 gr. These seem to cycle okay but I will not be able to get to the range for a few weeks. I would like to use CFE Pistol, But it is a relatively new powder, with not much data out there yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Goldbyz

I run mine a little longer then that for my 1911's.

ETA: I realized that was more cryptic then I meant. I don't normally run 200's, but when I do they are Berry's and I seat them at a COAL of ~1.240". My full notebook is in another state right now, so I can't get more exact. Can't help you on the powder, that's not what I run.

I use CFE-Pistol in all my 45acp loads. I have to get all my data from Hodgdon's site because I've not seen a manual with it listed. Their site list minimum and maximum charges and I have gotten my best results in my 45's using the lower powder throws. I actually found a good load for 200gr swc below minimum. Even the minimum load was painful to shoot in my 3.3" XDS. It had heavy recoil in my full size SR45, but that pistol despises a swc profile.

Polishing the feed ramp might help, and take the OAL up a bit. I've never gone under 1.20, and my 1911s seem to be happiest at about 1.25.

What problem? You say you've only loaded six and they cycled just fine?

I started out at 1.245 and found I had a cycling problem, from their I reduced the COAL 0.010 and tested the loads until they cycled without jamming the slide. It appears that a C.O.A.L with this bullet in my Sig. is somewhere between 1.185 and 1.180. The slide stick at 1.190.

I have a sig 1911 also and have found that it prefers shorter lengths. Partially due to a short leade.

i too have a Sig 1911 that has been giving me trouble with the 230 grain Berry RN bullets. It is interesting to me that I can load the Hornady 230 HAP to the same length without cycle problems.

My 1911 does very well with Berrys 230 gr. RN @ 1.245 to 1.265 C.O.L., Using 6.5 gr. of Hodgdon CFE
As for the 200gr. FN, Berrys, I adjusted the c.o.l. to 1.195 with a light role crimp and they did fine. Thanks you all helped out a bunch.

Try the 200 grain semi wad-cutter with Titegroup at around 5.0 grains, load to taste! Better accuracy and no feed problems. I also want to know more about the CFE powder!

I load 200gr RN at 1.23 OAL and I use CFE Pistol powder. Excellent accuracy and a great load! Not exactly sure what the OAL should be for the FP bullets, though... These work excellent in my Sig and all my other .45s.

I have used CFE-P in .45 and it works well at the top of the charge range, not so well at the low to middle.
If you are after full power loads it's great.
