i have a sig sauer 522 yes i know its only a .22lr.. but i love this little rifle and 3 inch groups at 100-150 yards through a 1x red dot make me happy.. anyone else have or have had this rifle? just kinda what did u or did u not like about it etc

alos sig 556 or ar?

I've got a Sig Sauer 522 and I absolutely love it! I put a $125 3-9x NcStar tactical style scope on it and its a tack driver for sure. It will digest whatever .22 LR ammo you feed it. I like to feed it the cheap copper plated Federal stuff they sell at WalMart in 550 round bricks. CCI MiniMags work great if you are going for accuracy.

The only things I don't like is loading the magazine and my magazines or the magwell on my gun is ever so slightly loose so the mag will wiggle. I put a wrap of electrical tape around the top of the mag and it fixed the issue.

i too have the mag wiggle didnt think of tape hmm have to try it.. i have a center point 1x red/green dot and the star 522 rail setup. i feed it blazer ammo never had a single issue about a brick (500) a weekend lol

only problem i have is loading the mags.. go through them 10x faster then u can load them

SIG in the US has really had a tough time with the 556. Early on, canted rails plagued the rifle, along with the inclusion of an AR stock and an ugly forend that no one wanted. When they finally got around to the 556 Classic, they got close, but no cigar.

They decided to use chincy diopter sights that seemed to be made of pot metal and whose durability remains a large question mark. The Classic retractable folding stock was a step in the right direction, as it mimics a new design from SAN, but they outsourced production to some unknown country and the stock assemblies are weak and often have out-of-spec latches.

At around this same point people started finding that the bolt carrier was peening the trunion, and SIG's response was to grind it all down. Now, they are marketing the 556A1, but they insist on using a horrible handguard rather than something more accurate to the Swiss offerings.

The 556 is a rifle that could have been so much more, had management had the mind to make it a combat rifle and not a high profit margin range toy. A quality AR15 is a much better choice in my opinion, and it wouldn't be one with the SIG name on it.

I really like my SIG 522, but if you want a super SIG rifle hunt down an SHR 970.

Swiss precision.

I have a Sig 556 Patrol with none of the problems boricua9mm mentioned. It is a quit nice rifle and has functioned flawlessly.
I said "none of the problems." I will say one thing about that review, Boricua9mm was right about the diopter sights. The ones on the rifle are potmetal and on mine the diopter would not adjust to point of aim; it threatened to spontaneously disassemble.
The good thing is that it has been replaced with aftermarket iron sights and an Eotech.
That is not really a "problem" with the rifle, per se, but it is annoying that an otherwise fine rifle would be equiped with chintsy sights.
IMHO the Sig556 is better in many ways than the AR design. It has an AK like system and does not "crap where it eats." The downside is the Sig is heavier and less "pointable."
Take your pick.

The 522 I got recently is one of the best and most fun purchases I ever made. It's stupidly accurate and reliable with all the cheap ammo I've tried so far. I've got an Eotech on it now and my 12 year old daughter can hit an empty shotgun shell at 25 yards. I haven't tried it at longer distances yet but I expect it to be accurate.

I also have its brother the 556 and that's a blast to shoot as well, although more expensive.

Hopefully SIG works out the kinks on their AK so I can add one to the collection.

The only 556 i like is the patrol version with shorter gas system. I have a SWAT and it is just way too front heavy, ecspecially with the full length rail. I bought one not long after they came out. The mags sat too low and the bolt would not strip new rounds so i had to send it in for repair. I was not happy given what i paid for the thing. I've heard they've got most of the kinks worked out though. Since then it has run like a champ. I do like the AK style operating system and belive the long stroke piston and the rails for the carrier to travel on provide superior reliability to an AR platform.

I've got one of sigs factory short barrel rifles. It has the mis-shaped trunnion that causes carrier impact and eventual carrier damage. The upper and lowers rattle. The bolt hold open spring is weak as is the mag catch spring. I expect them to fail and will stock spares. It's going back to sig for the carrier smacking into trunnion issue. The design is great but sig usa really dropped the ball on it's manufacture.
That being said I really like the way mine shoots. It's just not the top quality that sig has been known for. For a toy it's fine but for zombie land I'm not so sure. I've owned a few sigs over the years. Will not buy any more sig USA rifles or pistols. The quality is just no there anymore. I will still buy Swiss and German made sig guns though.
Good luck!
