I'm being offered the opportunity to buy a SIG 716 from an individual for $2K. It's had less than 100 rounds through it. It doesn't come with optics. It comes with one magazine.

I live not terribly far from the SIG shop in Epping, NH, so it wouldn't be hard to get work done on the rifle.

Is this a good price? Are there any gotchas I should be watching for?

What's availability on them? If its above new price they better be close to unobtainable and you had better REALLY REALLY want it.

Personally i dont know the value of the gun so cant offer any advice. We have a sig specific dealer here whom ive talked to some, and i dont ever remember seeing a gun in the shop going over 15-1700. This was a couple years ago tho.

I see them on sale for about $1800 from gallery of guns right now. $2000 is the high end of the brand new price. Don't pay new prices for a used gun that is easy to find new. Just my 2 cents

Thank you. The seller claimed it was about a $3K gun new. This was a man I thought I could trust. Perhaps he was mistaken.

Just did a quick search on gunbroker. There is a brand new one with an hour to go on the auction for $1800. There is also 1 that you can "buy now" for $1979.
$2000 is too much for that gun used when you can buy it new for the same money or less.

A 30% hit on what would basically be a brand new gun would make me wary. He may have overpaid, but in this day and age of the interwebs, that seems like a significant miss unless he bought it with a ton of other stuff.

Or there is something special about that gun

Checking Bud's, it looks like you could order one now for a hair under 2 grand.

There's not much sense in buying a used gun at a new price. You might try to talk him down on it, but given that he says his gun was worth $3000 new (whether that's the truth or a BS'ing sales pitch, it doesn't really matter), he probably will not be very flexible on price. I would give it a try and then go online if you can't make a deal.

If it is a friend, just say you aren't able to buy it right now to avoid it being awkward or hurt feelings. Otherwise if it is just an acquaintance, make a fair offer and point out that is the current price new.

It looks more like the DMR, actually. It has the full-length rail, the brake looks similar.

Maybe there are a bunch of these guns made or something. Seeing lots of the 716 DMR new with bipod and some with scope for 2100 to 2500 using the buy it now option. A REALLY nice looking one with all the bells and whistles plus a nice vortex scope unfired with 1 day left at $1750 right now. They seem to be a little more expensive than the regular sig 716s but nowhere near 3k right now. For the record, I know very little about any AR style guns. But I am interested in the AR10 so this thread got me reading about the sig. They look like really nice guns to me.
