I was looking at the Sig website yesterday and saw something that is new to me. A Classic 22. It is a .22 cal that comes in several models- 220, 226, and 229, any of which can be converted to center fire ammo. .45 for the 220 and 9mm and .40 for the 225 and 229. The last line in the description claims that the conversion does not affect accuracy.
WOW... that sounds great to me. I had been considering a Sig Mosquito for 22 plinking, but one of these Classic 22s would be more practical. The Mosquito is 90% the size of a 226. It looks like the Classic it exactly the size of a 226.
Does anybody have any experience with these Classic 22s? Thanks

From what I know of them, they are the full sized 220s, 226s, and 229s, but with the .22 conversion kits. If I recall correctly, you need to shoot a .22 mag with them to cycle the action, because the slide is heavy. I'm not 100% sure though.

Bud's was selling a 220SAO for $399.00 then you got a coupon to buy the .45acp conversion kit for another $400.00 I really want one when the get them again.

No. .22LR and .22WinchesterMagnumRimfire are two different cartridges. .22LR is not shot in .22Mag guns nor vice-versa. The Classic guns are chambered in .22LR and the slide will work just fine.

It may be picky with ammo (like many other caliber conversion kits out there) and I think the slide might not lock back after the last round.

I have a 229R-22. I was disappointed with the smaller grip/frame of the mosquito and mine was spitter. The 229-22 is much better. It is everything I wanted the mosquito to be. The aluminum slide makes it much lighter than my 229-9mm so it's easer to pull off target with the trigger. Which I think is a good thing, it will help me improve my trigger control. Mags are expensive, about $50, and the slide does not lock back on an empty mag, but it is not the only pistol I have that doesn’t, so I can live with that.

Short review: I like it. Shoots very good. Glad I bought it.
