Quick question. My wife has taken a liking to the Sig Mosquito. I was just wanting to know if it will function with anything cheaper than CCI mini mags?
I know that these are what Sig says to run and that compared to full size calibers the CCI's are still really cheap. But compared to the other .22 lr ammo it is expensive. Just watching the pennies to save for another gun.

the sig I got my daughter has broken in moreso after a couple k of bulk .22 ammo but not to say it was easy only told my 18 yr old girl it will only get better and it did. However not to say it would have been really nice if the was the quality I thought I purchased and not baby it. I would have been better off with browning or ruger.

The only ammo cheaper than MiniMags that my Mosquito will function 100% with is Federal AutoMatch. It's still a bit more $ than typical value pack ammo. Mine runs just okay with other Federal value pack ammo and tends to run worse with other brands. I guess it really depends on how much you're willing to put up with.

The Mosquito won't function with close to 100% reliability with ANY ammo. It might come close with Mini-mags, but that's it. Just MHO

My Mosquito has worked with everything I stuff through it, despite stories of it liking only CCI and other higher power stuff. I'm not saying those things didn't happen ... perhaps I just got lucky and wound up with a good one.

I broke my Mosquito in with Mini-Mags for the first thousand or so rounds. It ran nearly 100% with the Mini- Mags. After that I used the red box Federal bulk pack from Wally World, with fair success. I now keep the gun pretty clean, and the slide rails well greased, and it runs really well with Federal Auto Match in the bulk packs.

I think Tommyg sums it up "perhaps I just got lucky and wound up with a good one."
Have owned many SIGs over the years and they have ALL operated extremely well and had been very accurate, flawless pistols!
Wanted a .22 for plinking, got the Mosquito about a year ago, nothing but problems (ammo)... gave it to a friend real 'cheap.'
Went and got a CZ Kadet... flawless shoot... love it (like ALL my CZs)!!! Son has a Browning... FLAWLESS.
Have had several Ruger Marks... FLAWLESS and they shoot everything!
For me, life's too short to be screwing with a problem .22! If you get one that works, you'll probably love it... but me think you're 'rollin-the-dice!'

.

Try CCI Blazer. They're pretty much the same as MiniMags on paper (only not copper washed) but a lot cheaper. I've found them to cycle all of my 22 semi autos just as well as MiniMags. Worth trying anyway.

If I give mine a quick spray with either RemOil or CLP, it will run just fine with Federal value pack ammo (36gr. plated HP). It likes being well-lubed, though.

Out of 100 rounds, I'll get 1 or 2 stovepipes. Good practice for clearing malfunctions...

I traded mine for a Sig Trailside. The Trailside is much superior in function and accuracy. It runs perfectly with every .22 LR ammo I have tried. My Mosquito functioned fairly well, but was inaccurate. The S&W 422 I had was a much better gun as well. They can be found very reasonably priced.
