Inexpensive ammo that fires reliably out of Sig Mosquito?

I've had a Sig mosquito for a little over a year. The only inexpensive ammo that fires reliably thru it is Remington thunderbolts that I've discovered so far. I've heard that CCI mini-mags fire well out of this platform, but they are pretty pricey at $7 for 100 rd box. Anyone else had luck with ammo that costs a bit less than the CCIs firing thru the Mosquito?

I've heard that keeping a lot of oil in Mosquitos helps. I don't know if you already do or not but if not it's worth a try. Sorry I don't have anymore ideas for you though.

My fathers Mosquito barely even likes to run on the expensive stuff, so I can't really help you. CCI is the only stuff I can get it to run semi-reliably on.

Have you changed the spring on the firearm yet? I would appear to also get better with the more rounds you shoot in it as for my daughter it was cci mini mags now she can use remigtion 525 ct golded bullet mfg lot is 1622c works now with only once in a while sticking a stovepipe but then we clean the pistol and all is good.

Spring change and mini mags helped, but my skeeter was a long, long way from reliable.

I've read that sometimes the chambers are slightly too small, and buying a chamber reamer & using that really helps.

Mine seems to run reliably with a variety of ammunition after an initial break-in of ~200 rounds. I run mine fairly wet with CLP. In the early days I would put ammunition in a ziploc & put a tiny spray of Remoil in there & move them around to get just a tiny amount of lube on them. Not something I normally do but it helped with cheap ammunition initially.

My Mosquito is 100% on CCI MiniMags, but only about 80% on pretty much anything else. I can count on 2-3 misfeeds on every magazine if I try Federal Bulk - but take the same magazines loaded with MiniMags and it runs like a Swiss cuckoo clock. The gun is well beyond what you could consider a break-in, with several thousand rounds through it. I guess it is what it is - I definitely enjoy shooting it, but it's not as cheap to feed as I'd like.

I know two people who have Mosquitos--one bought his 2-3 years ago and the other bought his within the last 90 days.

Both have proven troublesome to their owners.

I have read a number of threads that seem to indicate that these are not isolated occurrences.

My wife's Mozzie runs 100% with MiniMags & about 99% with Remington Golden bulk. It hates Federal bulk. It goes into single shot mode.

1. Use the light recoil spring.
2. Keep it clean & wet. That hole on the right side of the slide is for oil.
3. Check the screw that holds the barrel on after every range session.
4. Use only genuine SIG METAL magazines.
5. firm grip.

I usually buy Federal AutoMatch. It's cheaper than Mini Mags and functions just as well in my Mosquito.

I just got a Mosquito and am still working with it on these issues.

Everyone knows they come with two recoil springs, right? I bought mine used from a guy that did not know there was a second spring in the box. Right next to the manual he did not read, which if he read he might not have sold me the gun. Worked out OK for me.

I switched to the "white" spring and tried Rem and Fed bulk ammo, and the Fed ran 95% while Rem ran 40%. Just not enough umph to make it cycle.

I also tried Winchester, the better stuff with copper plated bullets but not exactly CCI minimags. It ran like a champ all the way.

I have high hopes for the Federal bulk if I can run a full brick thru it. I've given up on running Rem bulk in the Mosquito.

I had much the same problem. Not with a Mosquito but the gun that gave me grief was still a direct blowback gun much like the Mosquito.

If the usual bulk ammo results in a soft weak empty case ejection that barely arcs out over the back of your hand then try some CCI Standard Velocity. If you find that it works in your Mosquito then what you need to be able to run the cheap HV stuff such as Blazer is actually a WEAKER recoil spring. In my case the gun worked super with the SV ammo but stovedpiped frequently and barely threw the brass out the rest of the time with HV ammo such as Blazer and Federal 525.

This is because the direct blowback guns work differently than the delayed blowback/locked breach guns found in center fire guns. In the rimfire direct blowback operation the lighter bullet pushed by the charge exits the barrel sooner than the heavier SV bullet. So the actual impulse force to the slide with the HV rounds is less than the slower SV rounds. So odd though it seems the faster and lighter the bullet the softer the recoil spring has to be.

If you're already using the softer of the two springs then you're sort of hooped unless you can find some aftermarket springs which are even softer.

If you don't mind experimenting you COULD try cutting off one coil at a time up to a max of 3 coils. But instead of fixing the issue it could easily ruin the spring. First I'd try a 50 rnd box of CCI SV ammo then go from there.

Pay particular notice to how far out the empties eject. Even to the point of holding the gun down but still very much pointed at the backstop and just fire off a few and watch the ejection arc.

+1 on the Federal Automatch. I have had my Mosquito for about 5 years. It runs 100% with Mini Mags and about 98% with Automatch and a little less with Federal red box bulk pack. It's nearly a single shot with Reminton Thunderbolts.

A friend with a Mosquito runs Federal AutoMatch with happy results-every other bulk pack gave him problems.

I've had good luck with the Remington Golden Bullet 525. Then I got a sweet deal on a large purchase of CCI Mini-Mags a few years ago and the skeeter really likes those.

I have heard all the horror stories about the Mosquito but I've had good luck with mine. It's one of my favorite pistols.

My Mosquito ran well on CCI Blazers @ $20/500 and Remington "Game Loads" @ $15/400. This pistol choked on Federal or Remington bulk ammo.

**I recently sold the Mosquito replacing it with a new Ruger SR22p.....The Mosquito always felt good in hand and ran well on ammo it liked. The SR22 is slightly smaller in hand, but has it all over the Mosquito in reliability, trigger feel and general build quality.
