I have been interested in the Sig 22lr semi-auto handgun Mosquito or 1911. I tried a Mosquito at the local gun range and it ftf and fte numerous times...I hoping that this is not normal for the Mosquito! We used federal 22lr rounds but it just would not shoot. I have not found a 1911 Sig at any local range so I'm needing input from those that own, have owned or had experience with either one of these Sigs. Thank you for any help offered.

Unfortunately, function problems with the Mosquito seem to be common.
That said, I bought one last summer and it has been a fantastic training gun and plinker. Its trigger is a DA/SA its heavy in DA, with lots of take up in SA but as a trainer its great to practice trigger control. My Skeeter' has given me no problems in about 2000+ rounds at this point, I broke it in as recommended with 400 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags and run CCI Blazer (both 40g HV) as my main ammo, I have tried a few rounds of the bulk stuff and it ran fine. This one is a new production and has 3 of the metal, better quality mags. I also keep it clean and lubed(as I do all my firearms).
In the past I've had a GSG-1911(which is now also sold as the Sig Sauer 1911-22) it was very reliable and a good shooter, but too me...it was boring :uhoh: At 2+lbs in .22lr I could hardly feel a round go off and the glass break SA trigger offered no challenge . It was also overly complex and a p.i.t.a. take down. I don't own any 1911s so it was no value too me as a trainer either.
For me, the Mosquito fits what I need a .22lr pistol for and so far, so good. I'm very happy with it.

Here's how it does at 10yards unsupported. (top dot) 5rounds slow fire, (bottom dot) 30r with mag chgs. rapid fire.

There are both of your problems.

1. It's a rental. Rentals are hardly ever maintained properly.

2. Federal ammo, I will presume bulk. Those things turn my wife's Mozzie into a single shot. It runs 100% on CCI MiniMags and about 99% with Remington Golden bulk. I also clean & lube it after every range session. We also use nothing but genuines SIG metal magazines and broke it in with 500 MiniMag solids.

FWIW I'm not really fond of the Mozzie simply because it doesn't feel right to me & the trigger is just awful, but the wife loves it. Given my druthers I'd go for the 1911.

Wait a minute. Are you deciding between a Mozzie & a .22LR 1911 replica? Or a sho 'nuff .45ACP?

Choosing between a .22 and a .45 ACP is kind of a stretch.
Do you want to pay .04 cents a shot, or .80 cents a shot?

If you are not an experianced pistol shooter who already knows how to shoot well?
Buy a .22 you can afford to shoot enough to learn to shoot well.

If you want a .22, buy a Ruger Auto, or a Browning Buckmark.
They just might work.
Both have good triggers by todays standards, and are very accurate.

I was assuming he was talking about one the the various .22lr 1911 on the market now (chiappa, GSG/SIg, Colt/Umarex, Browning, ect).

I recently got one of the Uramex/Colt 1911 .22lrs. I got the government model for $389 OTD. I love the fit and finish on it.

Some of the advantages over the other .22lr 1911s
12 round mag
no magazine disconnect
fixed barrel
no allen wrench needed for takedown

I took it out for the first time yesterday and I must say I am impressed. Accuracy is good. It shoots slightly low, but not too bad for a fun plinker

50 rounds CCI bulk--no issues
50 rounds Remington Subsonic -- no issues
50 rounds Federal bulk (walmart value pack) no issues
100 rounds of Winchester Superx -- no issues
200+ rounds Federal Lightening-- 7 failures to feed, 1 stovepipe. (note I also shot a new Ruger Mark III and had issues with the Federal Lightening with it also)

Overall I am happy with the purchase. I wanted a fun plinker in the 1911 format and it came down to this and the GSG/Sig (Remington too small and more expensive, Chiappa bad reviews). It is not a Colt Ace but it is cheaper than the Ruger Mark III that I recently bought and it was just as reliable and was close in accuracy to it.

I have to believe the issues with the Federal Lightening is ammo related. I have had trouble with it in every 22 auto I have shot it out of. Unfortuately I bought a bunch of it while it was on sale (4000 rds) so I guess I need to shoot it up quick to get rid of it

Sig Mosquito 22lr vs Sig 1911 22lr

I'm sorry, I should've said Sig Mosquito 22lr vs Sig Sauer 1911 22lr. I realize that the ammo and rental issue set that Mosquito at a dis-advantage from the get go. But I really haven't had alot of time or opportunity to shoot either one frequently, let alone side by side. So THR was my first avenue to get sound advice. I thank you for your input and shared experience. The feature that I like more than anything is the de-cocker on the Mosquito. I own several Berettas and really have come to appreciate that. My other question is this, whom actually manufacturers the 1911 22lr? I see ATI, GSG and Sig mentioned when referring to this particular model, so I'm sort of in the fog as to whom produces and warranties this model. Thank you for any info offered.

If you do some searching, you will find that it is 9unfortunately) very much normal.

From everything I've read, GSG is the manufacturer for both their 1911-22 and the SIG 1911-22. Several variations offered ( plastic vs wood grips ) ( accessory rail or not ) ( blue vs what I think was desert tan I saw at the last gun show ). Of course, if it said SIG on the side, it cost more. That was going to make the choice easy for me, because I preferred the GSG markings anyway. BUT then I came across the warranty. Both are for original buyer only. ATI ( imports the GSG ) warrants for 2 years. SIG for life. So it might be worth that extra $30-$40 for the SIG on the side.

Got lucky & found a used GSG cheap. So my search & research stopped. So can't comment on the other 1911-22s out there.
