I have been looking for sometime now but can't find a pistol that I like in a semi-auto 22lr. I've shot a P-22 Walther, S&W SR-22, and a Sig Mosquito. I really didn't get a warm fuzzy for either of these pistols. The P-22 and SR22 were relatively too small in my hands. The Sig was a huge dissapointment due to its NUMEROUS ftf and or fte. I'm not a fan of the 1911 designs and revolvers are out. Whats left? Some thing in a 4" barrel and fires just about any 22lr round. One of the joys of shooting a 22 is cheap, fun target shooting. I'm not going to shoot CCI mini mags every time I go plinking for the sake of limiting ftf and fte as in the case of the Sig. Any help on other semi-autos would be appreciated? Thanks for any help offered.

sig mosquito def has ftf and fte issues! Really picky with ammo and needs constant cleaning to stay operational (100rds).

You're looking for one of these: MKIII4

A friend of mine has the target version... its a very nice pistol, good fit and finish, good weight and feel to it. Another friend of mine has the mosquito and hates it.

Ruger target, ruger hunter or browning buckamrk....hard to go wrong with any of them. I've shot them all extensively and all aren't too picky about ammo assuming you clean them properly and don't over lube them. Thousands and thousands of rounds through my camper with zero complaints...

Also take a look at the S&W 22A, and the model 41. Each come in various barrel lengths and styles.

Thought the SR 22 was a Ruger, or did you mean the S&W M&P 22?

I've got to second the Buckmark. I've only got about 1K rounds through mine, but it's been a dream and eats everything I feed it.

I'll take either, I really have no preference. I ended up with the buckmark because at the time I priced each with the features I wanted...target crown (protected), fiber optic front sight, adjustable all black rear sight and a barrel over 5". Te buckmark equipped like this was cheaper and came with three mags. Had the ruger been cheaper, I would have gotten it. I don't view either as being superior.

The important part is to get both, lots of mags, tons of ammo, some reactive steel targets and go have a blast. :)

I've also resorted to buying this ammo at walmart:

It isn't as accurate as CCI, but it isn't far off, either. Plus since all of my 22 autoloader rifles and handguns shoot it accurately, I can stockpile it faster than myself or my kids can shoot it...almost.

Oh yeah, pick up one of these:

Best 3 or 4 bucks you'll spend on a 22 like these!

Browning Buck Mark, Ruger MK II or MK III, S&W 22A -- all of these are good choices. Another option if you want a more "combat" style .22 is the Bersa/Firestorm 22:

More of a plinker than a target gun, but a ton of fun anyway.

If you can find a used Ruger MK II get that. If not, a MK III or Buckmark will do, and you can remove the annoying mods from the MK III if you so choose.

The other I'd suggest is a CZ Kadet .22 pistol, or Kadet Kit on a 75 based CZ centerfire pistol.

The SR22 does come with two grip sleeves, but the other grip sort of angles the gun up like an arched mainspring housing in a 1911. I kept the smaller one on mine, more comfy. I have relatively large hands, ring size 12, but get all fingers on the grip anyway. I like my Mark 2 a lot, got the SR22 for its pocket size and the thing is amazingly accurate, 2" groups at 25 yards with Federal. 100 percent reliable, neat little gun.

I like .22s. I'll probably get a Buckmark sometime. :D I just had to have the SR22 first.

Ruger MKII,with your preferred barrel style and a Clark trigger and Volquartsen sear for an informal target style gun.

For plinking I still like my old S&W 422/622s.

Ruger MK II of any configuration, easier to take apart,no mag safety,no loaded chamber indicator. Downside if you can call it that on all but the 22/45 heel type mag release.

I ordered a M & P 22 pistol. I wanted something along the lines of a double action not the DA/SA of the P22 or the SR22, or the SA of the Buckmarks or Rugers. I have yet to receive it so I can't give you an opinion on it as yet.

I've had one for about a month now and am quite pleased. Low cost trigger/sight picture practice for my 9. And it's a hoot to shoot as well.
Hope you enjoy yours when it arrives.

You're looking for a .22 semi-auto and you haven't tried a Ruger Mark III (or used Mark II), a Ruger .22/45, or a Browning Buckmark yet?

I love my Mark III Hunter and so does everyone else who has ever shot it with the sole exception of my daughter who loves revolvers.

I already have a Ruger MKIII Hunter and really like it, after I had and Voquartsen action kit installed. Now this last Friday I bought a S&W M&P22 and I too like it really well. I have shot over 300 rounds it the last couple days through it without a hickup. The gun feels good in my hand too, as it should because I carry an M&P .40c for my CCW, as well I shoot it in IDPA type competition. Now I have a cheap way to practice using .22 RF ammo instead. BTW the trigger is nearly the same as my .40 M&P. LM

I have fired both the Beretta Neos and the S&W 22a, (two of my shooting buddies own, between them, one of each) and liked both of them. They are both inexpensive (usually around $240) they are accurate, they are extremely easy and fast to field-strip, and they shoot naturally and easily in the hands of everyone I know who has shot one of either.

I just recently purchased a 22A. One short trip to the range assured me that it was money well spent. I'll write up a more complete review soon.

They are hard to come by now, but the S@W 422 is my favorite 22 auto.Full size lightweight and accurate. I have 2 and you can feed them anything. Just have to clean them every once in a while.
