So now that I've got a job with decent pay (and the overtime doesn't hurt :D) and seems that there aint a whole lot left to go wrong and cost me money I had been slowly saving up I'm debating what handgun to finally get lol.

I was going for a Sig 239, much as I'd prefer a more powerful caliber I'm likely going to go for 9mm due to cheap practice. I've also been seeing good things about a CZ but naturaly don't know anyone with one and can't for the life of me find a shop thats local and stocks them. The p-01 interests me based on what I have heard, how does it compare in size to something like a 239?

I'm trying for something more compact as when I get to it it'll be my CCW and I have a bit smaller hands and would prefer something where I don't have to fight to reach every control but the trigger. Something else in the sub eight or nine hundred range that would be comparible in size and such to a 239 feel free.

oooo I'm the first responder. sig makes some really fabulous firearms, i'm one of the first to admit it. that being said, I have a cz pcr (p01 without rail) which is absolutely AMAZING. the grip seems like it was made for your hands. the longer I have the gun the more I love it. 14+1 rounds, smooth lines and compact profile thats easy to conceal, good sights from the box (imo). easy to reach controls, and not too many controls at that (mag release and decocker). there is even a chamber loaded indicator. I love this gun and highly recommend you take alook at cz before plunking down alot of $$$ else where. oh yeah very easy to clean as well.

I've had both, and you really can't go wrong with either one. Personally, I sold the Sig, but kept the P-01, just because I liked it more (and shot it better). As far as size goes, they are just about exactly the same size (they don't look like they're the same size, but if you lay one on top of the other, they're very close in size).

CZ's are nice but will never have the feel, trigger or reliability of a Sig.

I have a CZ 85 made in 1988. I have yet to have a FTF with it. I have long since lost the round count but it has to be well over 50,000. Gun remains as tight as the day I bought it. Based on price the CZ is a better buy but really both are quality firearms and you can't go wrong with either.

Take Care

Bob

One thing that just occurred to me about the P239 is that it seems "sleeker" than a CZ, and it carries very well--it is rounded and smoothed, while the P-01 has more projections and bumps. Of the two, I'd say the P239 is sligthly easier to carry IWB.

Also, if this matters to you, there's a bit more slide to grab on the P239 than the CZ, due to the way the two guns are designed (the CZ's slide offers somewhat less gripping surface).

Yeah one of the main things for me is that the controls are easy to reach, I wasn't given the long slender fingers of a pianist, I have short butcher fingers lol

Biased towards CZ.

BUT, I will say SiG is a good gun. Try both out, handle both at the gunshop, (if you can't find a range that rents them to shoot), and see which feels better. To me, the CZ fits like a custom made glove.

The CZ-75D "PCR" is the best semi-compact, hi-cap (its no pocket gun) 9MM for carry out there.

yeah like I said I havent noticed them locally but there is enough sigs to fondle lol.

One thing I do hear often is that cz's have a...shall we say less then loveable trigger. Whats that about?

None I own/have owned had any trigger issues. Some say they need about 1000 pulls to smooth out, but I personally haven't noticed that. Maybe it's just me.

CZ

Whichever one you like.

CZ triggers aren't so great, but then again I don't think SIG triggers are all that great either.

EDIT: 800-900 bucks for a pistol????? Definitely CZ.

Lupinus, I have both and I just took some pics of them together. The Sig P239 is just a tad smaller (thinner and a hair smaller in the grip). OK, everyone don't laugh too hard on how I modified/butchered the Hogue finger groove grip on my P-01:D. I had to modify a full size CZ 75B Hogue grip to fit my P-01, since Hogue doesn't make a model to fit the CZ 75B compact sized guns. Oh well, it's functional and I love rubber type finger groove grips on all my pistols. These pics show the size relationship between the two. The Sig P239 does conceal carry a wee bit better than the CZ P-01 (prints a little bit less), but not by much. Of course the CZ P-01 holds a lot more rounds too, so it comes down to which one feels best for you. You can't go wrong with either one (IMHO), just get both like I did.;) Here's the pics:

AZ-

Since you have both how would you compare them in terms of trigger and accuracy? I don't shoot matches or anything so I don't need the best of the best but better is of course good. Also the trigger, I often hear of CZ's having a "mushy" trigger, what would you say from first hand?

Trigger wise, they are quite different, in the sense the CZ P-01 is a DA/SA type trigger system and my Sig P239 is a DAK trigger system model. If my Sig P239 was the more common traditional DA/SA model, then they would probably be very similar. The first trigger pull on the first shot on the P-01 in DA mode is heavier than the Sig P239 DAK's first shot off; however, the second and there after trigger pull of the P-01's in SA mode is defiantly lighter than the Sig's DAK trigger pull per each shot after. Like I said, if I had the normal DA/SA Sig P239, I could give you a better comparison. As far as accuracy, I would have to say I am more accurate with the CZ P-01. If I had a DA/SA P239 maybe things would be different, but I doubt it. The P-01 is a very accurate duty weapon, but the P239 does a good job accurately wise for a self defense pistol (IMHO).

I have a P-01 and 75BD. Both work well with my smallish hands. Put the Kadet Kit on for .22 practice. Get the 9mm and the .22 for the price of a Sig. I have the 9mm Sig 226 Sport stock and the .45 220 Sort Stock and love both. Get the CZ to start. Not sure where the idea of Sigs being more reliable comes from. Mine all run all the time.

What's better about a NIB SIG's trigger? On all the recent models that I've tried there's creep and grittiness that needs to be worked out with the range time, just like a CZ's. As for the legendary reliability of SIGs back in the day, check out the SIGForum and you'll find unhappy customers, just like you will at the CZForum. Bottom line is that both SIG and CZ make a quality product, triggers will vary from individual pistols with both, and both companies make lemons. Try them both and get what feels best in your hands but don't buy based on reputation alone.

I'm very happy with my NIB CZ75B. Ran 300 trouble free rounds at the range, the DA/SA are every bit as good, maybe even better than SIGs I've had, and accuracy was outstanding. All of this for over $200 less than a NIB P226.

CZ's are nice but will never have the feel, trigger or reliability of a Sig.

Uuhh, well, uh, no. I have a 75 and a 226 in 9mm. The 226 has the better SA pull of the 2, but the 75 I own has a much better DA pull, almost like a flat spring S&W revolver (my CZ-75 is an incredibly smooth out of the box pre-B).

Both of these have shot virtually identical 10 shot one hole groups at 21' from a crude rest.

The internal rail feature of the CZ makes the gun "feel" tighter than the Sig.

I'm not sure about the reliability comment since the Sig and CZ have both been 100% for me so far. I would stake my life on either one.

The fact that CZ's are frequently compared to Sigs says a lot about CZ's. Sounds like you have never owned a CZ.

I had two SIG's, a 220ST & a 245, and I liked them both very much. I have never been a 9mm gun guy, but my CZ75BD Police changed all that. It is one of the best shooting guns I have ever had. In my opinion, far better trigger than either of my SIG's. Because of this gun, I have grown very fond of the 9mm cartridge and it's accuracy potential, especially from this gun. It has really amazed me.

+1 to bigmike45's comment. I have the same gun and essentially had the same experience. CZ's are great - not just good guns. Also, IMO for carry, the PCR is better than the P01. Unless you really need/want the rail, the PCR has a much leaner snout.

AZGlock13, thanks for the excellent comparison.

The P-01 is my current carry gun, but to be honest, I think my full-size 75B carries almost as well (the P-01's grip is nearly as long, it's thicker, and only half a pound lighter).

Having only shot a (.40 S&W) 239 once, I can't say much about it. It was quite accurate, and it had a good trigger (lighter and smoother than a stock P-01's DA, methinks). Then again, the 239 is a good deal more expensive.
