Hi guys,

I currently own a Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact Pro. I have put about 150 rounds through it and it has been flawless. Granted it's not the greatest test, but generally speaking flawless functioning during the so-called "Break-in" period is a good sign of reliability.

That said, My father wants to buy it off of me for 200$ (I could probably fetch a better price on the market but I don't want to go through the trouble of finding a trustworthy party to sell it to, and I'll still be able to use it and carry it just about any time I want), and I am considering buying a Sig Pro P2022 (in 9mm or .40 S&W).

Should I sell my gun and put 200$ on a Sig, or just keep my Bersa 9 indefinitely?

So far I really like my Bersa 9. It has been 100% reliable (and other owners have very similar reports), it is easy to accessorize, and its weight makes followup shots easy (but it could be hard to carry all day)

However I want a Sig because
1: It has no safety, just a decocker
2: it has better ammo capacity than my bersa (though granted, it's a compact, not a carry model)
3: It has the Sig-Sauer name!

The two things that bug me though are:
1: It is about as large as a Glock 19, which might make it difficult for me to carry concealed (though I am a fat, 6'3" guy)
2: The ammo capacity is not that great for a relatively big pistol. I can get a Springfield XD with the same ammo capacity for, basically, the exact same price (Magazines cost about 30$ on any gun, Springfield comes with 2, Sig only comes with 1, plus it has a holster which will be good for training)

Help me out gun enthusiasts

I have found Sigs point better, feel custom fitted to my hand, balance better, and are great looking guns. The word on the net is the Sig 2022/SigPro are a fantastic value. This will be my next purchase.

Magazines cost about 30$ on any gun
I've been able to find XD magazines for 'roughly' half the cost of SIG magazines-think my XD mags were closer to $23 when I bought 'em?

I've got a couple of SP2022's-the first one came with 3 magazines and an extra backstrap-by the time I got the second, they'd dropped the second backstrap and went from three magazines to two. Been wanting a third mag for the second SP2022, but so far haven't been able to force myself to pay their too high prices for an extra mag.

You're right about the size being kinda big for CC-I got mine to replace a Sigma bed gun-liked the picatinny rail (bed gun has a TLR1S mounted), and I do like the SP2022 for EZ dry fire practice (in DA)-ye olde Sigma was also due for night sight replacement, so I used that money towards the SP2022.

Fer size, I mostly carry and XDSC40 or XDSC9 with a Pearce Grip Extender to cure the danglin' pinky. I'd hate to try to conceal an SP2022 in warmer weather.

Fergot to add-don't know that the SIG name means quite as much as it used to-beancounters (starting with the CEO from what I understand), dontchaknow?

Also-if you do consider an XD, try one of the regular models out before you let the excessive advertising on their M line get to ya.
Many folks like (even prefer :what:) the older models, and I hear some shops are dropping prices on the XD's since the XDM came out.

Fortunately, I haven't seen that in my neck o' the woods or I'd probably have an XD45 Compact in the collection!

Bunch of bunk started most likely by someone who had a problem with a SIG and somehow corellated it with the new CEO. I bet the same people don't research who the CEO is of every company they make a major purchase of.

Myself I only buy proven SIG designs such as the P220/P225/P226/P228/P229/P239/SP2022 and have had absolutely ZERO problems with any of them through thousands and thousands of rounds old and new.

The newer models such as the P238 had a rocky introduction for sure though reports for most of this year have been outstanding for that pistol. Probably a little too much rush to the market.

The SP2022 is an outstanding pistol regardless of the price and you can review the scores of threads about them on the SIG forum if you want to know how it is thought of over there.

Mine has been flawless through almost 1000 rounds. The SP2022 is also known to have an excellent trigger right out of the box.

It is a little heavy for it's size as it is built like a tank and is a DA/SA design. It for sure is larger than a Glock 19 - I believe 7.4 inches long. The Glock 19 would be my CCW choice between the Glock 19 and the SP2022 and I have one of each.
You can get reasonalby priced magazine from them if you look around and there are vendors on the SIG forum that often have them for under $25. The magazine capacity is 15 for 9MM which I feel is plenty. If I need more I can use the Mecgar 20 round magainzes for my P226.

As far as SP2022 vs XD you really need to try each out and one is a hammer fired pistol and th other is striker fired if that makes a difference to you. Both pistols have huge followings. Myself I like the SP2022 better than anything not SIG other than the marvelous Walther P99 AS and the Walther PPQ.

There had been some reports of a few users having problems with the SP2022 in .40 about 4 months or so ago that required a warranty service repair from SIG but hopefully that has been resolved not. Problems with the 9MM SP2022 have been reported as extremely rare on the SIG forum. One member has more than 20,000 rounds through his SP2022 and another more than 30,000 without a single issue.

The SP2022 s a great pistol but their are a lot of good choices out there and as always it is best if posible to try out for yourself whatever you are considering.

Here is mine which has been crazy accurate for me with cheap ammo ---

Well one obvious sign the beancounters may be in charge is the number of magazines they send with the gun-OP said the one he was looking at came with one magazine. Really? Who the heck wants/needs only one magazine?

Another reason the SIG name doesn't mean what it used to has nothing to do with SIG-there are a number of excellent firearms hitting the market over the last few years-one no longer has to pay the high prices of SIGs (and others) to be assured of getting a reliable firearm.

These days, beancounters not being in charge seems to be the exception, not the rule. I saw it in my old employer (and their suppliers), and is one reason I probably spend less money on certain things than I used to.

Despite having four of 'em, I'm not really into SIGs (or any particular brand).
I'm sure rellascout? or whomever it is in here that's into SIGs may be along shortly to point out quality issues and company politics? :uhoh:

It appears that was done to keet the price of the SP2022 down - a marketing decision so that people can get a SIG product at bargain basement prices thought often leads to purchases of other SIG pistols. One might be surprised how many only want to pay for one magazine due to their needs of trying the pistol out one or twice, if ever, and then putting the pistol away for HD. If someone does not want to buy a SP2022 package with one magazine they cerainly do not have to but it appears sales are very brisk.

Just about any other model SIG comes with at least 2 magazines, some 3, and some even 4.

Steve of SCP Firearms often has good deals on SP2022 magazines. You can find his contact info in the link below.

Woah, the p2022 can accept p226 mags? Does that hold for the .40 version?

As a fan of the Jason Bourne trilogy, I would like to add that in the third movie there is a quick shot of his holstered Sig, and I believe it is a 2022.

Just adding a little levity. I could care less about CEOs.

I was not a fan of these earlier in life but I'm seriously giving it some thought with the revised models (from the 2009) and given the price point and it functions the same way as my other pistols.

I originally stayed away from the SigPro after reports/rumors of slides breaking on the P2009s after numerous rounds going through them. I haven't heard any issues with the P2022s yet.

I am very well pleased with the accuracy, reliability, and quality of my 9x19 SP2022 and recommend trying them to anyone wanting a traditional DA/SA action in a polymer frame.
