Okay I recently picked up a Sig P220 Carry (Commander length P220) and I really like it my question is is there anyone that makes a holster for this gun?

I know it will probably fit in a regular P220 holster but the neat thing is the shortened slide. Why have a holster longer than the gun?

Any of the "belt slide" type designs would work. The ones where the barrel sticks out the bottom anyway. Would P245 holsters work?

I would highly recommend a Gary Brommeland www.brommelandgunleather.com Max Con V. I have 3. A holster longer than the gun will tend to collapse in the unsupported area. Also, Gary B. designs each holster length differently to compensate for the carry characteristics of the gun length.

Firearmz: I'd love to go with a VM2, however they currently have an 18 to 20 week backlog. I have a class I hope to attend in October that I'll need a holster for. :)

P220 Carry Holster

WRT to the Galco work arounds for the P220 Carry (I have an SAS model); Galco states:
We have an available cross fit for the P220 Carry, which is the P228, please keep in mind that this is NOT a tested fit by Galco but the tech specs are the same and it should fit. The order number is SKY250B and this item is on backorder until early October.
Of course that means it might or might not fit - depends on which measurements they compared. Generally you don't want extra room at the bottom (using a holster for a regular P220). Milt Sparks is now about 18 weeks behind, so....if anyone tries this Galco work around, let us know how it turns out.

I just bought a 220 Carry myself and ordered a High Noon Skin Guard. It's one of his "in stock" items and I should have it in a week or so:

Looks like it's going to work out just fine. Feels good on my "Beltman" belt too.

The XD service model holsters in leather work great for the 220 carry. I had the xd holster, just picked up a 220 carry and it fits just fine, no slop or movement inside the holster.

Mitch Rosen (sent back the High Noon)

I sent back that High Noon synthetic that I bought. Sorry, High Noon, but despite your claims, it doesn't fit my 220 Carry correctly. But, I lucked out yesterday. Called Gunners Alley here in NC and they had a Mitch Rosen 5JR Pres Express Line and it's perfect. New, they are $75 and this one is like new for $60. Great value.

Any open top holster that will fit sig 229r will work for the 220r carry. I have a goverment prodution over run sig p220r carry SAO. It is basically an Elite with plastic grips. This is what I have come up with after hours of research.

I just picked up one of the 220r carry single action only overrun models myself. I have tried Galco, safariland, Bianchi & Sepra holsters for the 220r & they are all too tight for this pistol. Has anyone else run into this issue?

The 229/220 C as long as they are railed are the same frame and slide length...
The std 229 holsters may work but the trigger guard is a different shape and wouldnt recommend them.
Any maker who has the 220 ST mold can make all of them....just make them short.
Shoot well and god bless.............

There is a difference in slide length between the 220R and the 220 Carry. I have both. There are some holster makers who will use the 220R as a mold for a 220 Carry holster. Some can make the holster properly to fit the 220 Carry, most cannot. IMO, if you're paying for a custom holster, it's wise to make sure the maker has the actual frame of the gun requested rather than take a chance that it will be a hit or miss deal.

I think K man is right. Ask the maker, if he says he can do it...then trust him.
Most actually do know what they are doing when they say they can produce a certain holster....I say most "loosely" :D Shoot well...........

Does anyone know for sure though what safariland duty holster will accommodate the 220 carry, because my 229 dak safariland duty holster with the als is too tight of a fit. Thanks

aanderson,

I have a P220R carry SAO and picked up the Safariland ALS mid-ride level II (Mod # 6360-74-131 for the Sig 228 / 229) hoster for uniform patrol. My 220 has a bobbed hammer and I still had to slightly modify the holster. The ALS works great when u ease the pistol upon reholstering. The Hood of the thumb safety needs to be notched for the hammer to affectively work. The holster presents the weapon with and quick smooth draw, just a different draw from the 070 SSIII. If you need a little extra "slickness". use silicone spray on the interior lining of the holster. I'm waiting for the 6738 with ALS in 228/229 to see if it works for plain clothes / off duty. The Safariland (Mod 18) IWB holster for concealed carry should work. I have the older leather version for a Glock 21 that fits. Still need to find a Tac holster for raids.

Stay Safe
