Quick question. I have a number of P220 (Compact, Carry, Full, Stainless) and a C3. I had carried an XDs45 but didn't like the grip. Now am carrying the Compact. At the range yesterday another shooter told me to find a P245 to use instead of the Compact. I did the required internet search but still want to know (from those with experience) is there a material difference between the Compact and P245 - enough for me to start a search for one?

Thank you.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that the 220 compact is just an updated version of the 245. They use all the same accesories from what I can tell. I love my 220 compact.

The P245 was the predecessor to the P220 compact. The main difference between the P245 and the P220 Compact is the P245 has a carbon steel slide with internal extractor versus the stainless steel with external extractor one on the Compact. That means the P245 is fractionally lighter and may have a perceptible, different (better?) balance to you. The P220C mags fit the P245. As a matter of fact my 2009 P245 came with 2 stainless P220C mags, which add about a 1/4" length to the grip over the P245 mags.

I can't say whether the P245 is different enough or better for you. You will have to locate one and try it to see for yourself. It comes down to kind of the old-school versus new Sig argument/preference.

Also, I think the early Compacts had beavertails and rails(?) so I don't know if yours has them or not, but the P245 has neither.

P245

The P245 was Sigs 1st attempt @ a compact 45ACP. It has the old folded sheet metal slide with pinned breech block.

It was made in West Germany as were the old P220 with folded sheet steel slides and pinned breech block as well.

When Sig USA started making the stainless milled slides here in the US, I guess the P245 gave way to the compact version of the P220.

Really like my P245 and I believe the weight difference would be palpable between the Compact P220 and the P245.

Hope this helps.;)
