I recently happened across a Sig Sauer P245 in great shape and for a good price. Now, I've been Jonesing for a "Made in Germany" marked Sig for a good while now, and this one fits the bill. It's listed for a pretty good price, but the question I have is how do these shoot? I'd specifically be interested in hearing what folks have to say in terms of how these shoot when compared to compact sized 1911's (Officer's ACP or CCO patterns in particular). Also, do these have any known widespread problems? Lastly, am I correct in my assumption that these take the same 6 round magazine as the P220 Compact?

Any input is appreciated.

I had one years ago- by far the one pistol I carried the most. It seemed accurate to me, but I never shot it much past 10 yards. Having a three fingered grip never bothered me- strangely, I find it comfortable. I never really put it through it's paces though.

Massad Ayoob had a pretty good write up of one in a book on Sig pistols I have. He stated that it was a very accurate pistol.

Many report they shoot as well as a P220...they do take the P220 Compact mags and those mags have just a touch longer finger rest for those of us who find the regular P245 finger rest a touch too short...
You can add the P220 Compact finger rests to the P245 mags...

If it fits your hand and you like the P220, you will probably also like the P245...there are s also an X-Grip that will convert a 8round P220 mag so you basically now have a P220 Carry...add to that any mags for the P220 should fit be they 7,8 or 10 rounders...

I had one back when I was sporting SIG's. Great guns. I actually shot mine better than my P220's.

Mine came with a factory installed (aftermarket) DAO trigger, along with the original trigger the previous owner was nice enough to include with the gun. I installed that when I sold it, as most people dont seem to like the DAO triggers.

The P245 will take P220 mags as well as the smaller mags. I used one of my 8 round P220 mags as the reload when I carried it.

I never liked the newer versions, especially those with that silly beavertail.

So it sounds like everyone has favorable experiences with these. Happily the specimen that I'm looking at does NOT sport the goofy beavertail. I think I'll have to move on this guy.

Well, I just picked up the P245 for what seems to be a pretty average price for this gun in like condition anywhere else (i.e. Gun Broker). I can't wait to get it home for a more thorough once over, clean and lube in preparation for a range trip. I know for sure that night sights will be added to this gun, probably a set of the Sig X-Ray U-notch sights like what's on my Legion P226 and P229. I may also have an SRT kit installed to make it more of a natural transition between my Legions and the P245.
