Wanting a 45 acp carry pistol da/sa. Am strongly considering one of these . Would love to hear from owners. Particularly interested in the weight . Does this come with an alloy frame ? Have been carrying a 16 oz J frame so I'm spoiled as to light weight. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. No Tupperware. No 1911's.

jp,

I carry the Sig p245 which is the early model of the 220 compact despite the name change. It has an aluminum frame and holds 6+1 of .45acp. It carries well and shoots great. I have a number of other compact .45's to carry (SW, HK's, Berettas) but the p245 seems to be the best of the bunch. Not much else to say- reliable and accurate and feeds anything. Good luck.

The frame is light. The loaded weight is not bad. It's even better in a holster like the Milt Sparks Versa Max 2.

You are severely limiting your choices. The P220 Compact is very inefficient in terms of size versus capacity. It is the same height as a Glock 19 and approximately the same width. You're only getting seven rounds onboard. The S&W M&P 45 Compact has similar height and length to that of a Glock 19, yet has 8+1 capacity. The Springfield XD 45 Compact has similar dimensions and holds 10+1 rounds.

I don't but have a friend who does. He likes it but has gone to a pocket .380 for carry.

You might want to look at the S&W 4513 or 457 also, they are DA/SA 7+1 .45's.

Try to shoot a P220 compact as we as other pistols to see what works best for you.

I went from carrying a G19 cause everybody said it was the best, while it was a good pistol and I could shoot it pretty well then I tried a 4513 and shot way more accurately and not much slower than the G19. Capacity is nice but I rather be able to get good hits with less ammo than have more ammo and need it to make up for my bad hits. If I could shoot the G19 as well I'd want it since it has more ammo for the same size but I don't. (I'm looking at a 3913 or 6906 which is similar to the 4513 but in 9mm.)

It's hard to go wrong with the SW 3rd gen.'s and it sounds like your a fan. I have the 4513TSW in the 6+1 variety and it's the same size as the Sig p245/220 compact. It also comes as a 7+1 variety and is the same size as the SW 457 (which I also have). The extra grip length of the 457, 4513 7+1 (and stainless framed 4516 7+1) make it more likely to print the grip- at least with me.

For 9mm's I think the 6906/04 platform is perfect and is my EDC when I'm not using the Sig p245. The 3913/14 single stack 8+1 9mm is perhaps the perfect single stack 9mm- light, concealable but not too small, and accurate.

You have good taste in pistols.
