Never has a SIG before, thinking of getting one. How has this pistol performed? LOVE the wood grips!

I have never shot an Elite, however the main benefits over a standard P220 are the extended beaver tail and the new SRT trigger (short reset). When I say short reset, I mean SHORT reset! ;) It's seriously only around 3-4mm reset. Other than that, there is no real functional difference from a standard P220 as far as I know. The wood grips are a bit thick for my tastes, though they certainly are nice!

I work at Sig Sauer and I can find out anything you want about any of the Sig weapons that they make here. I have to agree about the grips, but... that's a very easy fix. you don't have to get it like that outta the store either.

I just purchased the 220 super match. This firearm is fantastic. I am a little dissapointed that they did not adopt a stainless frame rather than an alloy one. The extra mass in my my x-5 definately helps with recoil management and I wish it were available in the 220 super match.

I've had some problems with the wooden grips on my 220 though and had some of the checkering buggered at the grip screw holes. In fact the replacement set that was sent out was similarly buggered. Sig customer service did come through and I was promptly sent a set of the plastic grips.

I much prefer the stock 220 grips. I replace grips on almost all of my many handguns (for aesthetic and ergonomical reasons) but, even though I have relatively large hands, wood grips on my 220 spoiled a just about perfect grip that the pistol came with. The question of which size/configuration of grips is best is, of course, always a subjective and individual matter.

Not that I can currently get one (thanks California) but a 220 Elite Stainless is on my list as next Auto to buy.

I don't really care about the grips I am in it for a .45 SIG w/ SRT and Beavertail. Hopefully by this time next year I'll be giving range reports with my new SIG 220 Elite. :)

Just got one last weekend

I am very impressed with the gun. Both the DA and SA trigger action make me look like a better shooter than I am. I took a Kimber Raptor Stainless to the range with me. It was my previous favorite. The Sig just blew it away. Every time I picked up the Kimber, I couldn't wait to get the Sig back in my hands.

One concern though, and I am very picky, is the procedure for take take down has an addendum I didn't find (read) until I had broken the gun down twice. It has you stopping to drop the hammer during slide removal so the safety bar doesn't get bent. I called Sig to see if I had buggered anything. Each time I removed the slide, it came off very easy, so I the Sig rep didn't think there was a problem. Still I was concerned about the issue...my slide really doesn't seem to bind when removed, the rep assured me "I'd see the bent trigger bar" if there was a problem. He explained it was all due to the unusually long trigger bar for the short reset system. In any event, I now am careful to drop the hammer during removal even at no time did I ever feel any unusual resistance during take down.

The grips feel a little big, but I have big hands and coming from almost all 1911's I'm sure I'll get used to them. They sure are beautiful..

Anyway, I am very pleased and can't wait to go shooting again.
