Has anybody tried out the new Sig P226 .22lr that's convertible to 9mm? I want to buy a new .22lr for target practice and am thinking about getting this and later on buying the 9mm conversion but I can't find any reviews on it.

Thanks

Well sort of. I think Sig is selling a 220, and a 226 frame with the 22 conversion already on it. It comes with a coupon that will allow you to purchase the centerfire upper at a later date, at a discount.
Kind of like buying the 226, then the 22 conversion, except backwards.
Anyway, I don't think it's been out very long, so there might not be a lot of people out there that have experience with it.
I have the 22 conversion for my 226, and I am very happy with it. I have about 500 rounds through it, and except for 4 or 5 problems, in the first 50 rounds, it has been perfect. The only real complaint I have heard is that the slide does not lock back after the last round is fired, so you have to count to 10. If you dry fire it, you can cause some peening of the chamber when the firing pin hits the edge of it.

Cool.

Love my P226. Nill grips and a .22 conversion are on the short list this spring if I get called back to work.

Yeah I'm talking about an actual P226 that comes just as 22lr but can take a 9mm conversion. I was thinking this could be my new 22 trainer and later on buy the 9mm. I just can't find any info on it besides some websites that are selling it.

you have it right and it's a great deal.

you get the regular 220/226 lower with the .22lr conversion unit mounted on it...you get the coupon to purchase the .45/9mm upper at a discounted price.

if you take advantage of the coupon, it's almost like getting the conversion unit for free.

i'd jump on it in a sec if i didn't already have a 226ST and a 220ST to mount the conversion units on already

Our local dealer has 2! Exactly what you said, a 226 with a conversion already mounted on the frame. And yes, you have 1 year to redeem the conversion.

Nice firearm, feels good in the hand-but how does the .22 conversion function? Would like to get a report on performance.

That's just a great move by Sig.

Something like that might get me into a P220 .22/.45 to go with my P226.

Yes you can buy them like this. You actually save a 100 bucks by doing this and using the coupon in the box. If you purchased the 220 then ordered the 22 conversion it would cost you 100 dollars more.

I have the 226 and have sent my check along with the coupon in for the 40S&W slide and barrel. I am still waiting for that to come in. The 22 is sweet though.

Matai, did you every buy one?? I've been looking at it for a while but can't persuade myself to go ahead with it.

Just wondering if you did buy one and it so what was it like, maybe i'll think more seriously about it if you enjoyed it :)

I bought the P220 SAO .22 version and it's a great shooter. As I have a bunch of other .45s, I may not buy the top end but it's nice to know I could...
