SIG P226 in 9mm... is the Blackwater worth it?

Going to purchase a SIG P226 new in the next couple of days. Question I have is whether it's worth it to upgrade to the Blackwater edition? It's about a $185 increase to get the Blackwater which gives me 3 extra mags, wooden grips (instead of the SIG plastic), front cocking serrations, and some logos.

Or should I just get the regular P226? What would you do? Keep in mind that SIG mags run $35-$40 each and wood grips are probably at least $50.

Depends on the use. If its a carry piece, dont bother. If you will be using it to impress folks at the range then go for it. Either way its a nice weapon.

I wont' be carrying it. It might impress people at the range but my intention is to use it in a weekly IDPA style event. I'll go back and forth with my G34.

Functions the same. Bells & whistles are cosmetic. I always go for function at lower cost.

I don't like the wooden grips, and I use $20 MecGars in my P226s. I don't think that the Blackwater edition is worth it.

If you planned to add these items anyway (and IMO you should have at least four magazines for a heavily used gun), the price difference is less dramatic. The front cocking serrations and logos are superfluous (again IMO), however.

i agree that the blackwater version isn't worth it, in fact i'd feel like a world-class dork for buying into the whole "blackwater" thing. and CDNN usually has 226 factory mags and mec-gars for $20-30 IIRC.

I have 2 226 Navy's which run about the same as a regular 226. Phosphated internals are the only difference. When you add in the cost of the extra mags and grips of the Blackwater it starts to become a better deal. But out here in Kali there's still too much of a premium and the differences are only cosmetic. Doesn't shoot any better. Plus, who needs front cocking serrations?????

I'd stick with a regular/Navy P226. Great pistolas.

I'd go with a plain 226R, you can pick up Mecgars for $20 from Topgunsupply.com For the price of the blackwater the money would be far better spent on Sig's SRT(short reset trigger) conversion, beleive Sig charges $129 for the conversion.
