I’m looking to get a 9mm auto with a red dot. I can get a sig p226 with romeo 1 pro or purchase a beretta 92 and send it off to Langdon tactical to have the slide cut. Anybody have experience with both and willing to share their thoughts??

I have the 92FS and a P226 Elite. The P226 was a 40 converted to a 9mm. I prefer the P226 even without considering the optic mounting solution you are looking for.
Specifically I prefer the grip, trigger, decock mechanism, accuracy, and the ease of tightening up the pistol with a hand fit barrel.

Another fan of SIGs, particularly the P226, P228, and the P229. Like others here I prefer the decocker design and overall ergos of the SIGs versus the Beretta 92FS.

The SIG P-226 series pistols tend to have, especially if you get one with the SRT, far better DA and SA triggers out of the box. The Legion Greyguns PSAIT is even better.

Pretty sure you can get a stock 226 w/Romeo (even a Legion) off the shelf for much less than it'd cost to send a new Beretta in to Langdon. But if you send a Beretta to Langdon, better get his trigger job as well.

Either way, both worthy pistols. Depends on how long you want to wait to shoot your new gun, and just how much you want to invest. Myself, although I love Berettas, I'm a Legion kinda guy...

I have both, and I carry the Berettas IWB, none of which have a rail which is uncomfortable on my bony frame. Back when I carried in a holster I carried my railed P226ST, but nowadays it's a range toy.

As far as reliability and durability go, both are equal and there's really no wrong choice.

'Halfbreed' old refurbed LEO p229 started out as a .357 Sig, converted to .40 S&W now wearing a 9mm Legion RX Slide. It and its twin brother have the best triggers of any handgun I have ever tried including my many S&W revolvers. I have over 15 years into them:

I was issued the 92 and Sig 228 at different times in the mil. I also have some experience with the 226. I would pick the Sig all day long without question over any version of the 92. They just make a better gun.

I have both and while I think the Sig 226/229 has better lines and looks a lot sharper than the Beretta 92, the Sig 226/229 just don't feel as nice in the hand to me. With medium sized hands, the 226/229 feels too chunky. I have a 229 Legion and I have two Wilson Combat Beretta's and comparing the two are night and day different. The Wilson 92s are considerably better built pistols. Triggers on the Wilsons are lighter and smoother than the Sig Legion SRT also. I think the Legion looks really good, but my favorite is the Wilson 92 Centurion hands-down.

I think it's definitely a personal preference as to which gun feels better to you. The one that feels the best will likely also be the one you shoot the best. Either option are good choices.

I have a 226 Elite SAO with a dot and a stock 92FS.

I like 92 better but I have always liked the Beretta. I have only had the Sig for a couple years or so. I like the Tigger better and not having a frame mounted safety better but I don't care for the grip and that bore axis is just way too high for me.

I may trade it for something else But I keep trying to make myself like it since it was kind of expensive LOL.

Beretta 92s feel like a baseball bat in my hand, the barrel of the bat! I can’t stand controls in the slide either, so Sig all day for me:)

I had a very nice version of a 92 that was a fine range gun, and would've been fine for home defense. However My Sigs feel more robust (steel framed ones) and I like the lines much better. I also started shooting a CZ Shadow 2 that I was much much better with than the Beretta.

So the 92 went away. But they are fine guns. Just a preference thing, but I'd go Sig.

I'm biased as I have only one of these....but it is my favorite auto I have shot thus far.

In looking at the 92FS, I think I would like the Sig safety setup better as well.

Having carried the 92FS (M9) in the Navy and Air Force I will say that my tiny hands don't like the romance novel thickness grips. It feels like a 2X4 in my hand. Not a fan (always Qed expert however). Now the P226 with the E2 grips is a machine. A very robust gun and accurate too. I like the controls for decocking better as well. Even with the older screw on panels the P226 fits my hand better than the 92.

Put the thin trigger in the P226/228/229 and it makes it very nice as well.

I have all sortsa Classic / Legacy SIGs in my stable without those horrid rails over the dust cover...

...but just one Beretta.

However...

-------------------SIG P22x-------------------Beretta M9/92

There is no safety, per se, on the "standard" double-action SIG Model 226 pistol; it relying on the long da trigger pull to prevent an inadvertent discharge. Is the Legion variant a single-action pistol having a manual safety?
