I really love my new Glocks (Gen 4 G26 and Gen 4 G19).

I have a W German (1994) Sig P226 that I like a lot, too. But, I have fallen out of love with the Sig DA -> SA transition.

I can trade in my Sig for most of the cost of a new Gen 4 G17.

Should I do it?

You might be able to find someone with a Gen 4 willing to do a straight-up trade for the Sig.

I can't say that I would. I view Glocks and Sigs about equal when it comes to reliability (as long as we're reasonable and not talking about throwing the thing off a clif or something :D) The only real difference I see shooting wise is the feel of it in your hand and the trigger action. And oddly enough I actually prefer the DA/SA of the Sigs.

I've actually been considering trading my G17 gen 3 for a Sig 226. If you're interested, feel free to see me a PM. I'm sure we could work something out.

That would be like trading a Porsche 911 for a Honda Accord. If I had a Glock to trade you I'd make that trade in a second. But IMO you should keep the SIG. I own glocks and like them. But my German SIG P226 is my favorite pistol by far.

I shoot Glocks and Sigs but for home self defense I prefer the Sig - the longer DA pull may make it safer in some conditions and dang that 226 is one accurate pistol.

The Glock is a great gun for the money but it is and always will be a commodity pistol the used market reveals a lot - used Sig = New Glock.

Why go for the new Glock? There's nothing wrong with a used one. As someone else has suggested, you can probably trade even. (Or consider a Glock 34, used.)

The DA/SA transition is a bugaboo for a lot of folks.

This is a tough, because I'm a GLOCK fan, I own a lot of them. I love the sigs as well though.
When it comes to realiability they are a wash. Both guns will run forever.
I'm more accurate with the sig in SA, however I do prefer the consistant stock glock trigger as opposed to the DA/SA transition. The ergonomics of the 226 blow the glock 17 out of the water. The 26 and 19 that you have don't have the massive hump in the back of the grip like the 17 does.
Also the gen 4's are over priced imho due to the fact your paying an extra 100 bux for one extra magezine, different grip textuing, and 2 back strapst that make a 1 millimeter difference in the front to back grip size.
The 17 is common and you can buy one any day of the week at most gun shops. The west german 226's are hard to find around here so if you want to replace it one day it may not be easy. I'd keep the sig and just save my pennies until I could buy the 17 because the 17 is always to be found with ease.j ust my .02

I'm not a sig fan. I've ran them before, and the DA/SA thing isn't for me. They're great and I have no complaints, I just prefer running and shooting a glock or a 1911.

I'd make the trade, but I'm biased because I don't like the sig. Plus I already have the gen4 34, gen4 19 and I'll be picking up a gen4 26 this week. So yeah...a little bias on my end.

Well if you don't like DA/SA then make the trade.

Life is too short to use a tool that doesn't work for you.

For me it's about manual of operation. Since the sig controls are different (reversed )from most other autos, I decided a while back that I wouldn't carry one... except in rare cases.

I'd buy a Glock 17 over a Sig P226 any day. I just cannot get DA to run well for me and do not prefer the DAK. But, I'd never straight trade a P226 for a Glock 17.

It would be a good idea to leverage the higher price and better 'workmanship' (older, more complicated manufacturing processes) of the Sig, the higher perceived value of it, into a trade with lopsided accessories. Trade with the guy who's got some extra magazines and a good holster with it, or just trade someone like Telekinesis, see what he's got.

Really though you've already stated a preference for shooting the Glocks, and they're a known quantity, and the Sigs are generally a known quantity too. It will be hard for anyone to get screwed in a trade of a 17 and a 226.

They are both great reliable pistols. I would miss a Sig very much. I can live without a Glock. I'd save your money to get a Glock rather than make a trade.

One day your West German Sig Sauer will be a collector's item- Glock will be a Glock, prrhap gen7

A collector's item that had what, a million made? West German Sigs may command a premium over Exeter Sigs, but I doubt it would be that hard to replace one.

First question is how many rounds are you expecting per year? Sig life time is far shorted. How much are you willing to pay for maintenance? Glock parts are fewer and cheaper and require repair much less in heavy usage environments. If cost is no issue and you are expecting only a 35000 or so life span get the sig otherwise Glock.

A West German SIG is something special.

A Glock is just like every other one of the bazillion Glocks out there.
