Hello:
I bought a brand new P228 a few months ago. I have only fired about 100 rounds through it. I carry a G22 on duty, and I am having some doubts about carrying a DA/SA off duty. Also, with two kids and one on the way, lots of overtime and a new house I do not find that I have lots of time to get to the range and practice with the P228. I shot the P228 well, but had some trouble remembering to decock the gun before reholstering. I shoot my G22 and G27 very well. So I am thinking about selling my P228 for a Glock 19 (keeping the P228 and buying a G19 is totally out of the question due to financial reasons - diapers are really expensive . Any comments would be much appreciated. Thanks. Smudge

my first thought was: "What?! Are you daft?!"

But after reading your post I'd say go ahead. I'm all for picking a platform and sticking with it. Especially if you are LEO (which your post would indicate)
Train with and carry one gun. Your life may depend on it...even if it is a [shudder] Glock.

HOLD UP!

While both guns are top notch, I would NEVER sell a SIG classic P-series
to fund another gun project~ :( The SIG P228 is in a class all its own,
learn to use the decocker and I think you will be a happy camper! :)
Glock's are great guns, in their own right. But, having grown up on a
Smith N' Wesson model 39-2, I think I will stick with my West German
SIG=SAUER P228. :D IMHO, you would be better off to do the same.

BTW, if worst comes to worst carry your duty weapon off duty, until
such time you can fund the G-19 project.

I think the Sig is a better gun but following your line of thinking a trade wouldn't be a bad thing. You should get the G19 and some $ in exchange for the Sig, not an even trade.

I've got both of them sitting in my safe - when I shot them I shot the Glock better. I moved on to the 45 acp and haven't touched either of them in years.

Man falling off a cliff...........Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......Thud

I prefer the Sig but whatever you feel most comfortable with is what you should go with, besides diapers are expensive and the costs of a kid only go up from there.

The Sig is my preference but your criteria tell me that you should have the Glock.

If you are interested, I have a Glock 19 with 5 magazines and a holster I'll trade. I bought the gun, shot 200 rounds out of it and it is in the safe, I never used the holster, it is a Don Hume holster. The gun looks new. The Glock worked perfectly, I am simply not a Glock guy. I just happened to find out the Glock doesn't fit me. I was going to try to trade for a Sig as I have a P220 and it would be similar. Anyway, let me know if you are interested. [email protected]
Thanks.

I wouldn't give up my P228 for anything, but your situation is different, and the G19 is a fine gun for your stated purpose.

sig...

I dreamed of getting a g19 since I was 19. I am now about to turn 26. Three months ago I got robbed and all my guns were taken. So I finally could justify spending my money on that g19...

went to the stores...
went to another store...

got an offer:
sig p228 used (very nice condition)
2 magazines
night sights trijcon
hogue grips extra
box & lock
1 year of free range time
for 499$.

g19 costs 599 new here in CA.

so I ... bought the sig....

I can't say I'm dissapointed - but I can see your situation.

I'd say go with the glock if you're SURE you'll be good with it. otherwise, why not keep practicing with the decocker? besides, if you stick like crazy glue to the universal rules of gun safety, you should not have a problem even if you do forget once or twice... the sig has some very very good internal safeties. supposedly, the gun can ONLY fire if the trigger is pulled.

I love the P228 but for you definelty go with the Glock 19. Fits your needs better and keeps you on one platform.

Had to do a gun sell down awhile back and the only guns I did not sell where a Sig 228...BHP...and S&W 66...could not bear to part with any of the three...Glocks have long gone

I prefer the Glock to the Sigs. I used to be a big Sig fan. They are very reliable accurate DA autos. But I stopped using them after I got training as a firearms instructor. I learned about speed shooting and things like releasing to the sear, trigger reset ext. For starters sigs are DA SA or DAK. Neither of which I like. DA SA guns stick you with a heavy long da shot followed by a lighter sa shot. Most shooters under stress dump the first shot low or they have to slow down to make sure they don't yank it. Either way its slow. Next sigs have a long trigger reset in SA mode. Making the trigger easy to short stroke and making shooting with speed and accuracy challenging. Shooters often are forced to slap the trigger to avoid short strocking them causing poor hits. Next we have the high bore axis which muzzle rise more prominate than guns with lower bore axis. If I were forced to carry a DA auto it would be a sig. But I prefer 1911's followed by Glocks with the standard 5 pound trigger. For me Sigs are a thing of the past except maybe the new X5 but its single action.

Sounds like a good trade to me.

As long as they throw in 500-600 bucks...... :D

You can convert your 228 to DAO by replacing the hammer with a DAO hammer from Sig and removing the decocking lever.

A dao sig is not comparable to a glock. You get a long heavy 10 to 14 pound trigger for every shot with a long da reset. Sorry but if you must go dao go with the new DAK. But its still a long pull.

specialization is for insects...

i don't like the glock grip angle, i don't like the weight of the 1911, and i don't like the price of a new sig, but i can shoot em all. well...

The 228 is one of the Sigs I'd love to get when I have money for that, but I do own a Glock 19 - nice price too. I'd buy a 26 in a heart beat but it's not available in my state and when it is, I'll own it. Glocks are great carry and duty guns and I say this as a die hard Beretta fan. In my opinion, selling a gun is always a bad move, but given your comments and priorities, I'd sell the Sig and keep the Glock. Always train with what you use and are most comfortable handling.

Glock good. SIG better. For personally prejudiced values of better.

Me, I'd keep the SIG. But then I drank the SIG Kool-Aid the first time I held one.
