I've thought of a birthday gift for my father, so I'm doing a bit of research and want to see if it's even possible. My father has drop in barrels for his Sig P229, making it possible to shoot .357 Sig and .40 S&W.I'd like to see if I could get him a 10mm barrel made for him but so far three things, that I already know of, are setting me back. #1 can the P229 frame and slide handle 10mm loads? #2 Is it possible to have a company like Bar-Sto bore out a .40 S&W barrel and change it into a 10mm barrel? #3 Magazines. The 10mm bullets are a bit too long for them to load into a magazine and when they do the noses (and this is flat head bullets) hit the feed ramp. Does anyone if it's possible to have or even worth looking into a custom job that will allow this Sig to convert into a 10mm? Any help would be appreciated, thank you guys.

Agree with Lone, along with I doubt that the gun is beefy enough to handle 10mm. 10mm tends to beat up a lot of guns designed for it. I don't think the P229 is designed for something like that. Besides, recoil might be too much. Most decent 10mm guns are either heavy 1911 designs, or plastic, to absorb the recoil.

There is a 10mm gun talk board which has a forum for conversions. You would probably get more experienced answers there.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, that the well would probably make it impossible to overcome. I figured if Glock, being a polymer pistol, could do it then Sig might be able to do it as well. Thanks for the link Paints.

the main problem is the cartridge lenght not fitting into an action sized for the .40/357 Sig

the only 10mm conversion of a Sig has been on the 220...and that was only available on the Stainless Steel framed ST and Elites.

Gray Guns Inc. just finished their first batch and the customers seem to be pretty happy

I don't think I'd give up my P220 for a 10mm conversion. If I were going that far, I'd find a DW 1911 in 10mm.

OTOH, a much cheaper route would be to go to a 45 Super. $15 instant conversion and 45 Super has about the same specs as 10mm.
