Hi everyone, we're in the process of wringing out my wife's new p238. We have about 80 rounds through it so far.

Twice what has happened is after the last round in the magazine, the slide lock will engage, but doesn't appear to be fully engaged (the lock does not move up into the niche), and if you insert a loaded magazine, it doesn't disengage when you push down on it. You have to have a completely empty gun, no magazine, and push the lock down far enough to make it release the slide, then re-insert the magazine and chamber.

Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks.

So if I understand you, your slide lock engages and works after last round but does not fully engage, but when inserting a mag you cannot push it back down manually unless you take the mag back out?

What happens if you insert the new mag and pull back on the slide and let go?

I have a P238 Nitron finish and it has been perfect through almost 600 rounds now except for some cheap Tulammo that I ran though it initially. I had 2 stovepipes with that ammo. Everything else has been perfect.

Just as an aside, I ran some defense ammo over a chrony and was getting about 900fps out of it.

It sounds like the spring on the slide stop. Or not enough lube on the cam where the slide stop pin goes thru it. If the spring pops out of the little hole in the frame it will push the slide stop out away from the frame and cause it to jam against the frame. And with the mag in it is pushing up on it even more. Pull out the slide stop and make sure the spring is seated properly.

Just my two cents. Hope this helps.

Inserting a new mag and pulling back on the slide will not release the stop. The only way to release it is pull the mag out and push down hard on the stop.
