Can I successfully and reliably use a 357 Sig P239 magazine in a P239 chambered in 40S&W?

I would believe the answer is yes, but the fact that Sig sells them as separate part numbered units is giving me pause...

Sig likes stamping the caliber on the mag, and selling them for lots of money:D Should work, give it a try.

Well, no; if you are trying to use a 357Sig mag. in a P239 pistol chambered in 40S&W, that means, if I understand your question, that you are trying to fire a 357Sig bullet down a 40 cal. pipe. Not a good idea.

You can safely use a 357Sig mag in a P239 if you install a 357Sig barrel. You also can probably get by using 357Sig ammo in a 40S&W mag.; again so long as you have the 357Sig barrel installed.

The only differences between a P239 in 357Sig and a P239 in 40S&W are the barrel and the mags. (and technically the sights too, since the 357Sig round tends to shoot higher).

The 357 Sig mag should feed 40 cal rounds. Same case dimention, untill you get to the mouth.

I'm assuming that you have the correct barrel for the caliber that you are shooting.

A P239 .40S&W magazine will feed .357sig, but a P239 .357sig magazine will not feed .40S&W.
The lips on the front of the .357sig magazine are too close together and are not wide enough for .40 caliber.

Yes. :) I have a 40S&W pistol thru which I will only shoot 40S&W ammo.

That was my thought, which is why I asked. I can get the 357 Sig mags for the P239 for a lot cheaper than the 40S&W versions.

A P239 .40S&W magazine will feed .357sig, but a P239 .357sig magazine will not feed .40S&W.

And then this. I will take your word for it, but I do not understand how the lips can be closer together since the 357 Sig rim and case (below the shoulder) is the same size as the 40S&W.

Do you have any pics that would illustrate the differences?

1BLINDREF is correct... I have the P239 with .357Sig and .40S&W barrels/magazines and I can attest to that.

If you have the .40 cal P239 & mags the .357s will shoot in them with the .357 bbl installed but not vice-versa

I have a P239 with both 357Sig and 40S&W barrels with matching mags. The 357 mags neck down to match the necked down casing of the 357 round.

There is no way that a 40 round is even going to load, let along feed in a 357 mag; I just tried it.

Actually, the feed lips look the same, it's the body of the mag. that is different.

No, I'm sorry I don't. I only have the P239 .40S&W magazines. I never bought the .357sig magazines because .40S&W mags work with the .357sig ammo.
There have been many threads on this subject over on the Sig Forum.
