So you have been clearing your duty gun every night for the past 30 years? Doesn't seem a little insane to you?
Edited to add: We civilians buy our own ammo. It's not issued to us from the department. My comments stand - bullet setback it greatly reduced by not clearing your firearm every time you carry concealed. A chamber holstered firearm is not going to magically go off by itself stored in a safe.
Not quite. Sometimes I carry a revolver, and there are days I don't carry at all. Sometimes longer, depending on location or circumstances. I also don't always carry the same semi auto. And yes, bullet setback would be zero if the round was never unchambered. But that's not what I was asking. I am saying, and I believe I am correct, that riding the slide to chamber a round, and then just confirming it is fully in battery by bumping the slide, as people do when they do press checks (which I don't do, by the way), would properly chamber the round, and either reduce, or eliminate, the possibility of bullet setback.
I am happy that you have found what works for you, and store loaded guns in a safe. I won't do that, especially since a lot of my holsters are leather and storing a gun in a lather holster is never a good idea. Different strokes for different folks.
And I am aware guns won't magically go off if sitting in a safe. But safes sometimes aren't as secure as people believe. Look at youtube for videos on defeating personal defense safes. I know the odds are extremely unlikely, but I just have never sat well with a loaded gun not being on my person.
And I'm retired. Pay for my own ammo. Matter of fact, I buy exactly one 50 round box of defense ammo a year. Shoot a mag of it, and then use the rest as carry ammo between my two 9 MM carry guns. I do rotate the rounds when I unload. Don't see any appreciable bullet setback, but you never know, I guess.
