I have a Sig Mosquito that has given me nothing but problems. I have used a half dozen different brands of ammo, nothing works. I shot 50 rounds yesterday and had 35 malfunctions. failure to eject, failure to load the next round, etc, etc. I just emaild Sig for the second time this gun has never worked right from the day i bought it. (about 5 months ago) I am ready to send it back to Sig or junk it. Any one else had bad experiance with a Sig?

George,

I am a Sigaholic and own six of them. The Mosquito is not one of them. Unfortunately, I have heard much more bad than good about them. Good luck with yours, and I hope that Sig can make it right for you.

Thanks for all the bad news guys, I guess I should have done my homework before I bought. I will post if Sig responds to make it good.:(

George, Sigarms is bad about responding to e-mails (an area that needs to be addressed, but that's another topic). Call them instead. I've had to do it with my GSR (also another topic). The people I've talked to were professional, the wait/hold time was short and they e-mailed me shipping labels for all but the first time. Also, after three repairs on the first gun they replaced it.

It would of course still be better if we didn't need this great customer service.

nothing but problems with my sig p232

i bought a sig p232 a couple of months ago and have had nothing but problems with it. it shoots fmj rounds just fine..... but it will not chamber any hp rounds. i have tried corbon, and hydra shocks. i think the feedramp might need to be polished.
i went into the gunshop to buy a p239 in 9mm...but i was so impressed with how light and how good the p232 felt in my hand that i just had to buy it.
i have only shot about 500 rounds through it so i am hoping that maybe it needs to be broke in more?????? i have always loved the sig pistols and i won't hesitate to buy another. i just want this one to function correctly because i plan to retire the glock 27 and start carrying the p232.

yeah, I've heard nothing good about the Mosquito. I dunno if this is all rumor, but the three that I have seen (owned by coworkers) have all been less than reliable.

I'd be interested to hear from sig employee in that forum specially after the second from last paragraph in this statement.

Very good point gudel, I will be calling them on Monday to talk about my Sig Mosquito issues. I will bring up the statment you quoted from Sig on making better guns from better material.

Sig Mosquito Problems

I may be the only man on earth to have ever owned 3 new sig mos within 3 months. I bought the first one June /07,it had ftf,stovepipes/fte it was replaced after the 3 trips to sig. Got the next one 2 months later, it shot great and would eat anything you put into it......but 200 rounds later that day you couldn't hit a 8 in plate from 20 yards with it. I stripped it down and cleaned the bore and there was what appeared to be pitts all in the barrel . I sent it back to sig and they replaced it again . Now here we are Sept 14 and gun #3 arrives and low and behold I didn't get to put ONE ROUND threw it .I ran a cleaning patch down the bore to remove the factory test rounds residue and guess what ,it was just as bad as the last one,Full of pitts . Has anyone else seen this before? I can't believe the name SIG is even on these new 22's. But what's a man to do when the store only offers an in store credit? I'll keep you posted on the progress. :banghead:

I always thought Sig was synonamus with quality, thats why I bought my Sig Mosquito, I will get it next week...hope I don't have the problems you guys have had, I have heard that it likes CCI Mini Mags so that is all I plan on putting thru it...Stay tuned for a full report...

Mosquitos seem to have been really hit or miss, some people have tons of problems, while others have none. It definitely is not on par wit the rest of their product line when it comes to reliability.

Definitely call Sig instead of emailing. They're much more responsive over the phone.

Worst case, if you really love the gun but not the way it preforms, try grayguns.com.

P232 380 is Not Forgiving

I doubt that it's the feed ramp, more the shape of whatever JHP's bullets are.

Also, when you stray to far from 95gr, then TSHTF (using any bigger or +P loads) as I had feed failures most every 1st thru 3rd, first shots, both mags, both types of 95gr bullets thru 725rounds.

What I found was that with the blow-back-action, these little beauty's get real dirty fast and, that includes the interior of your magazines and, it was a guarantee after 230 rounds, that it would jam after the first shot, 2nd shot, or third, each magazine load.

So, I got some of the EEZOX synthetic lubrication, which you spray on metal, leave it for some 5 mins, then wipe off and it bonds to metal, making it very slippery, yet does not attract dust, dirt, or powder residue built-up, like gun oil.

After cleaning both the entire gun and the magazines, which you can use the EEZOX to clean and lube, but only for light cleaning, as you still need a cleaning solvent, M-Pro7 is what I use, to dissolve deep grit/grime, etc., but not with the magazines.

Just keep a ammo count, and when you get to 200, deep clean her, and the magazines, and she should go 100%.

But one other note of interest for you is, after all the reading I have done about the 380 bullet, I came to the conclusion, as many others have, that I only shoot FMJ 95gr, both for range practice and HD/SD, as FMJ gives you the best chance of deep penetration, as opposed to any JHP that won't penetrate nearly as far, nor will they expand..

I think if you use just FMJ 95gr ammo only, (nothing bigger, no +P stuff) and keep her clean (a *MUST) and the *mags, at or before 200 rounds, you should be good.

PS.. I shot with great success, Federal Premium JHP 90gr without any problems, except of course, round count powder residue build up, for feed jams. But like I said, I no longer shoot any JHP's with my P232.

One last little thing, but it could do it. Make sure you put the smaller diameter end of the return spring on first, and it seats all the way back, and the bigger diameter goes in the front of the slide..

Field strip it. Reverse the recoil spring. It's tapered. If you put it in backwards, the pistol jams. That usually fixes it.

I think the Mosquitos are just plain finicky. Some work great, others not at all. Mine went it's first 100 rounds without a hiccup then kept needing a second strike to set off the round. I thought maybe it had just gotten dirty. I went home, cleaned it and tried again, the thing kept jamming. I put about 500 more rounds of CCI minimags through it thinking it was just needing more breaking in and then I sent it back to Sig. They said they replaced the recoil spring, and that it was damaged. I test fired it, and it wouldn't feed without lubing the ammo for the next 100 or so rounds. Then it just started working perfectly and hasn't jammed since, hopefully it will stay that way for a while. It works great with the same light/laser (Streamlight TLR2) I have on my P226, it even has the same zero for both pistols. I don't know what to make of this thing.

And yes, I know what spring to use with what ammo, and how to install the spring. The light spring with CCI minimags is what I am using now.

SigArms Mosquito manual:

Look carefully at the drawing of the spring. It's tapered. The small end goes to the back of the recoil spring guide. The manual does not mention this. It is a documentation flaw, and a failure on Sig's part to ensure that salesmen are properly informed on this point.

Spring installed the wrong way:

Spring installed the right way:

You can see the difference, and if you put it in the wrong way, the pistol will jam. Generally, the problem is not the incorrect weight spring. The spring is installed backwards.

thanks lonestar49 for the advice

thanks for the advice lonestar49. i do love my p232, i guess i will just stick to the fmj rounds. i have never had a single feeding problem with them.

My pleasure, also..

...

Make note of the above return spring of the Mosquito, large end, small end, same deal with your/our P232's recoil spring, smaller/tapered end of the spring goes on first, bigger end goes up front against the slide, just like the above pics..

Enjoy,
