I was at a local shop today and saw this rifle on the table. It said "SIG 556 Commando" on it. However, it looked a lot more like the 550/551/552-series guns than a 556. Furniture was green, and handguard as well as many of the other plastic bits seemed straight off the 550/551/552. Also had a folding stock. Anybody know what's going on here?

Probably in response to the fact that the SIG 556 didnt look enough like the classic 550 series rifle that everyone was hoping for and expecting when SIG announced an "affordable" carbine on the horizon. The 556 Commando is a step in the right direction, but still lacks a lot of the features that really make the 550,551,and 552. Like crappy sights

That's because it's theoretically a distributor-exclusive (Sports South, IIRC) gun, not one directly available from SIG, as I understand it. Same thing goes for the RSR Desert Tan SWAT model. SIG isn't actually selling them.
