Does that include scope base/rings?
I'm very happy with mine, and I believe that's about what I got it for in a trade deal with a B-Square mount and 30mm rings.

Don't buy it unless you can locate scope bases beforehand or unless they are included. Otherwise you'll have a rifle you can't shoot until you have a set of custom bases made for it.
They are selling them NIB around here for $420----so not sure that's all that good of a deal for a used one-----Seems like CDNN had them also with rings and bases included---but add shipping and dealer fees to that one.

I've got a 30'06 that I bought when the first hit the US market. It took some hunting around but I found some rings locally that work with it.
When I've done my thing I've managed a 5 shot group measuring 0.33" at 100 yards shooting handloads from a bench. Most days it will shoot .75" groups all day long.
If you don't want it how about passing me the sellers name?

Well the Browning BLR Lightning bases are the same as the SHR-970.
And yes the Leupold QR bases will fit them too. But any bases made
for the LIghtning will work.
Very nice rifles, BTW. Too bad they quit importing them. I wanted one
with about three barrels. Sold mine since it was a 30-06 and I couldn't
find a 25-06 barrel that didn't cost about what they want for the rifles.

I have one...SHR stands for Swiss Hunting Rifle. Mine is in .270 and shoots like a laser. Bases were to easy to find..used Millet bases off of which rifle I'm not sure as it was over 3 years ago when I got it.
It is my favorite rifle out of the 7 I own (Sendero, Tikka M65, Model 7, etc..)
The only problem I have with it is the teflon coating they used to cover the barell with, it picks off rather easy and I had to use a bluing pen to touch up a few spots.
This past hunting season my father kept grabbing my Sig after each break we took together after pushing bush or what not. He always tried to walk away with the SHR ...he liked the rifle more than me I think which is high praise indeed as he has seen and shot quite a few rifles in his 70 years.

I was disappointed that they didn't release the STR-970 in 2000-01 like they had been planning. Essentially it was an SHR-970 with a heavy target barrel.
I was drooling over one in 308 and would have bought it had it been available.

I purchased an SHR 970 in 30-06 last month from a local dealer the price was $459. It is a much nicer rifle than anything american made you can get for twice the price. bases that fit 2 weaver #25 bases, the leupold QR bases, and there are others call sig and they will tell you all of them.
The reason they stopped selling them, was told to me by SIG in Newhampshire when I called. Its essentailly a 202 without the takedown stock feature, the $479 price was a shot show intro to generate interest.
To really sell them here, SIG wanted to charge $1600 per rifle!!!!!!!!!
They sell real well in Europe for that price!!!!!!
American distributors did not think they would sell well for the price, but you can have your ffl order one from SIG for $1500+
Mine cost $70 more than my rem 700adl, and is sooo much nicer that they cant even be compared, its like a custom rifle by comparison!!!!.
2.5lb clean crisp trigger no need for adjustment or replacement, free floated barrel, beautiful walnut stock has machined bedding blocks.
The barrel is user replacable. Detachable magazine. Silent positive 3 position safety Smooth 60 degree three lug bolt. SIG swiss accuracy and quality, Its a family heirloom. compare it to a SAKO ($1200).
If you can get one for under $500 snap it up you will never get a deal on a rifle this nice and accurate.

Hey Mrpostyphil....I just bought an unfired SHR 970 this weekend at a gunshow. Looks like a great gun and from the posts it looks like i made a good decision. I was actually looking for a 6.5 swede rifle though, because it is a round that I like a lot and i just bought reloading supplies to load for for my old swede military guns which I shoot in local service rifle matches. If you would rather have your gun in 270 Win. let me know and I will swap barrels with you.
