So I have several Sig P6 pistols and the nicest one is an almost new '98. However the very top of the frame is showing scratches from the slide, and while I see very minor rub marks on some of the other P6's, this one is bare aluminum. I cannot detect any burr or machining marks on the slide rails and I use proshot gun grease to lubricate the rails and no +P ammo.

My concern and question is this: Does the top of the frame bear any of the slide cycling forces, or is that all handled by the square rail channels on the sides of the frame? And are these marks detrimental to the life of the pistol? The rail channels on the frame are in perfect condition; I doubt more than a few hundred rounds have been through this gun.

Up front like that would be from the slide returning to battery me thinks. I'd look at the slide rails and maybe touch them up with a little uber fine wet dry sand paper if anything.

You might inquire with the manufacturer, but I see no safety concern.

Looks normal to me. The only way to keep one pristine is to put it in the safe and never shoot it. They are going to show wear from both shooting and carrying. Enjoy it.

Unless you have a very high dollar custom gun, you're going to see a good bit of the sort of wear shown in your photos as soon as you start using a gun -- it's what "break in" is all about. (It will be there for the "custom" gun, too -- just not as noticeable.)

Thanks for the replies. I understand each gun will show wear marks as it's used. It was just alarming to me as all my other P6 pistols (high round count early 80's and 90's) don't show the roughness of these marks. But if this is normal for some Sigs to develop this wear then I'll keep greasing it, shooting it, and not worry about it.
